Brian [Linux] 24 Nov, 2014 @ 6:22am
Hi Flesk! Toast Time was just released on Linux and it looks pretty good. I just bought it so when I get around to playing it I'll let you all know if it's a "hidden gem".

Thanks, I appreciate that. :)

Thanks for writing a recommendation for Toast Time, Brian. And BlaXpirit for writing up Ultratron and Hexcells Infinite (just crossed them off the list).

Games I've been enjoying on Linux recently which all work very well:

The Talos Principle - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1st person puzzler
Distance - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - survival racing game with jet powered flying car - addictive
TRI: Of Friendship and Madness - - - - another 1st person puzzler
English Country Tune - - - - - - - - - - - excellent puzzler
AntiChamber - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - classic 1st person puzzler a favourite.
Axiom Verge - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - retro sci-fi platformer very nice

Thanks for the suggestions! :) I love The Talos Principle, but I think it might be much too popular to be a good fit for this group. Same with AntiChamber. TRI is actually already in the list of games we curate, and ECT is one I've considered too. I've played a bit of it and really enjoyed it. Distance and Axiom Verge is a bit outside of the current requirements we operate with, but I'm not sure if it's right that they should be excluded.

There's a discussion about the requirements here, which uh... reminds me that I forgot to make that spreadsheet I meant to make last weekend. I'll be sure to include Distance and Axiom Verge on the list for comparison. I think we definitely need to tune the rules a bit, but I don't want to include so much that the original intent of the group becomes meaningless.

It would be nice to hear some more thoughts in that discussion.

Here's a few titles I really think are great :)

The Polynomial
Proteus
Race The Sun
T.E.C 3001
DeadCore
Distance

Thanks for the suggestions. :) I'll take a look at them.
flesk 20 Nov, 2015 @ 2:31pm
I kind of forgot about this, but I actually have The Polynomial, Proteus, Race the Sun and DeadCore, and I've installed them now, so I will give them a try when I get a chance to.

EDIT: I've played Race the Sun now, and it's great, but looking at Steam Charts and Steam Spy, it doesn't actually look very "hidden". Which is great for the developer of course, but it makes it less relevant for us.

I tried to play The Polynomial, but I didn't get it at all. If anyone else would like to write a recommendation that would be great.

Several of the Humongous Entertainment and Forever Entertainment children's games look like good fits too, but there are many of them, and I think we should just pick a few of the best. (If anyone has any idea which of them that would be.)

Right, not a regular game, but some features of space shooters, I took some screenshots when I experimented with the game and settings, feel free to check them out!

Thanks. It certainly looks interesting visually, but since I'm not invested in the genre, I find it hard to define the aspects of it that make it interesting to someone who are.

If you want to help write a recommendation for it, maybe you could post in this thread that I just created?

T.E.C. 3001 definitely fits the criteria too, so I want us to recommend it, but again; I don't think it's a game I'd enjoy.
Telekinetic Rex 12 Dec, 2015 @ 3:58pm
Sure, allow me some time to play the game again and I will write a review :)
flesk 12 Dec, 2015 @ 3:59pm
Thanks. :)

If anyone has played anything good recently that would be a good fit, don't hesitate to let me know about it. I'm hoping to pop up a few more recommendations by the end of the summer sale.

I'm planning to write recommendations for Zenge and On Rusty Trails, and maybe Evo Explores, but that one barely fits and is a bit rough technically.

Hot Guns is also on my list, but it's still in Early Access and might be a bit light on content so far. What I like about it is that it's not just a straight-up run 'n' gun platformer, but running speed and jump height/length depend on how many (up to two) weapons you're carrying, which makes for some interesting platforming vs. action challenges.
