Prologue
Back in old ‘1.6 days’, which for me actually started about beta 3.5, I vividly remember one evening playing on a map called cs_facility - where under bizarre circumstances both teams agreed to not attack each other in favour of meeting at CT Spawn Helipad to engage in 1v1 knife duels. It was amazing to see terrorists and CTs patiently lined up side by side under the night sky -- and not attack each other, whilst two members partook in gentlemanly combat. This was about the same time the film Fight club was released.

What is Knife club?
In today's context it’s not about an organised 1v1 fighting club, but instead about capitalising on a given opportunity to humiliate an opponent as and when a situation arises instead of taking the easy option of shooting an unaware opponent. It also unavoidably carries connotations to owning an expensive knife, but in reality anyone can be in knife club no matter what they have, so long as they are willing to take that chance!

Mottos
I came up with a few options inspired by the films lock stock and two smoking barrels and the dark night. In the end I went with neither, and opted for the most concise phrase in order to maximise the size of the letterforms within the ribbon area, although I really do love the other two, and I might change it if enough people call for it!

Design
I went through many stages until I reached the final form. I decided the first two results were too orderly, the first being a knife sharpener inspired design with blocky lettering, the second was a shield design that I actually really liked, but it lacked a certain amount of anarchy to match that of the theme in the film fight club. I settled on an idea to have the letters shaped like hewn blades in a more organic format. My original inspiration was the metalwork in the Vauxhaul logo[upload.wikimedia.org] and the Harry Potter film logo[soontobeangel.files.wordpress.com] lettering, although only after sketching it and creating the paths in illustrator did I realise I had subconciously evoked a similar style of lettering from the 80s cartoon Thundercats! When I realised this I found it all rather quaint. The knife model itself I had previously modelled for a personal project a while back as a way of learning about nurb modelling; it’s a bowie knife which I kind of liked as I didn’t want to choose between any one of the existing game knifes, although admittedly I did try to get two karambits to curve around the logo, but the finger loop was a distraction and the knives needed to cross to emphasise combat. I did create a version with rubber grips but the contrast was much better when the whole knife was silver, so I used a bit of artistic licence.

Let me know your thoughts, and remember - you DO NOT TALK ABOUT KNIFE CLUB.
