WHY IS THIS HAPPENING

Well, the main reason is that Fromsoft did a bad job of implementing EAC on Linux, thus making it basically useless. There are of course other ways to bypass EAC, but the botched Linux implementation makes it very easy. This appears to affect Armored Core 6 as well.

If Fromsoft fixed this, it wouldn't eliminate all cheaters, but it would eliminate a large chunk of them.


FIRST BACK UP YOUR SAVE

The best thing you can do is backup your save file. It takes the pain in butt from "my game is ruined" to "I lost a couple hours' progress".

Simplest way to do it is just to copy your save file before you play or after. Elden Ring wiki has good instructions:

Personally I use Onedrive, so I made a folder junction in my documents folder to my Elden Ring save. OneDrive gives you 30 days of file history, so you can restore your save from any point in the last 30 days:

There are other methods too, such as:
- Nexus mods have a bunch of apps people have made for backing up and managing save files
- make a scheduled task on login that runs a batch file to copy the save file automatically


REPORTING DING DONGS

If you got your game screwed up in this way, gather as much info as you can:
- the offender's Steam ID/profile link
- footage
- screenshots
- note the time and date it happened

Renember to block the offender on Steam as well. This will prevent them from connecting to you in the future.

If you have footage, you will need to upload it as an unlisted video to Youtube.

File a report with Bandai (outside of Japan) or Fromsoft (in Japan, or even if not), for what it's worth.

Include as much information as you can and be polite. Include:
- what happened
- time and date
- name of the offender's character (if possible)
- the offender's steamID and profile link (you can get this from the "recent players" list in Steam overlay)
- also let them know that EAC is broken in Linux.

Use Google translate or whatever to write a very clear and concise message, and paste it into your report on Fromsoft's page. Avoid fancy language so the translation is clear for them.


WHAT ELSE

Sometimes what looks like cheating, is just latency. Fromsoft's less-than-optimal networking job in Elden Ring doesn't help.
