SPECIAL COLLABORATIONS

CRITICAL ROLE

For our second special collaboration, we partnered with Critical Role to bring this new content to Assassin's Creed Shadows. This includes a new free quest called "A Critical Encounter", a new Ally to recruit and a new trophy/achievement to add to your collection.

NEW FREE STORY PACK: "A CRITICAL ENCOUNTER"

Rufino, an old friend of Tomiko and Heiji, calls in a life debt after uncovering a deadly conspiracy. While working as a translator, he discovered evidence that a secretive organization has been hiring assassins to eliminate influential commoners.

Now, he turns to Naoe and Yasuke for help in stopping these killers.

*Unlock conditions: Complete "Way of the Blacksmith" and unlock Yasuke as a playable character. This questline will start in the Hideout.

Reward: New Ally based on Critical Role's Assassin's Creed Shadows One-Shot campaign character, Rufino, played by Robbie Daymond. You will also get a banner in the hideout with the Critical Role logo.

New Trophy/Achievement: "A Critical Encounter", received upon completion of the questline.

With this collaboration, we will also release a Critical Role Weapon Pack inspired by the Critical Role universe, available for purchase in the game store! This pack includes 2 weapons for both characters, a Tanto and Katana for Naoe and a Kanabo and Teppo for Yasuke.

NEW NIGHTMARE DIFFICULTY SETTING

We are adding a new Difficulty Setting (Nightmare) that will introduce additional challenges to your journey. This mode will impact both combat and stealth, requiring more tactical planning and greater attention to your surroundings. Prepare for tougher enemies and a more intense overall experience.

Here is a tease of some changes you can expect from this new difficulty:

Player defensive options are less effective, and enemies deal greater damage at all levels.

E.g., Parries now require perfect timing to deflect the hit - imperfect parries will only partially block incoming damage.

Enemy AI is smarter, faster, and more aggressive in a variety of circumstances, including detection.

E.g., Even while crouching, Naoe now generates some sound! And even while in the shadows, she can be seen while moving!

E.g., Enemies will no longer become vulnerable from dodges or parries - only abilities can put them into a vulnerable state.

Combat resources (like adrenaline, rations, and shinobi items) are harder to come by, making their use even more vital.

TOGGLE HEADGEAR IN CUTSCENES

We're excited to introduce a highly requested feature: players can now choose to show headgear, whether it's a hood, helmet, headband, or more during cutscenes. Now your style can shine through dialogue scenes too!

You will find the option available in the in-game settings.

Note that headgear will not be displayed in cinematics or in some specific instances where a rule overrides this setting (romance-specific cutscenes).

VFX TOGGLES

Players can now disable/enable specific VFX to further customize their experience. These include the ability to hide or show the loot on dead bodies, the last known position of the player, the special attacks indicators of the enemies, and more.

All will be accessible in the Interface option menu.

OPEN WORLD ALARM

We have expanded the Regional Alert System available in Castles to the whole Province. Now by repetitively attacking Civilians or Military units outside Castles, the alarm can be triggered, and a group of Guardians will hunt you in the world.

HORSE CAMERA PRESETS

You can now toggle between 3 different camera presets while riding on your mount (hold the down button on controller/'X' key on keyboard while riding) allowing for a more cinematic experience to take in the full beauty of Japan.

ULTRA LOW SPECS FOR PC

We are adding a new visual quality level, the Ultra Low mode. This will allow PC players with a limited GPU configuration to experience the game in better framerate conditions.

GENERAL

Fixed an issue where the Onryo Mask remained visible despite selecting the option to hide gear.

Fixed an issue where players were unable to earn Mastery Points.

Fixed an issue where Mastery Points were not returned after resetting the Mastery Tree.

Fixed an issue where players could not switch characters anymore even without gameplay context restrictions.

Fixed an issue where allies could be trained to veteran rank without upgrading the dojo to level 3.

Fixed an issue where Gennojo did not immediately appear in the hideout after recruitment. He was busy washing his hair!

Fixed an issue where sometimes a player remains stuck in a Red Zone, without being able to fast travel anywhere, by allowing them to fast travel to the hideout.

Fixed an issue where the Oni Drawing remains stuck on screen after completing the "Vision of the Realms" quest.

Fixed various localization issues.

QUESTS

Fixed an issue where players could not progress in the "A Chance Encounter" quest when following Fuyu.

Fixed an issue where players could not complete the quest after defeating all Kabukimono.

Fixed an issue where Lady Oichi's letter became unavailable after the Fuji-maru cutscene.

Fixed an issue where players were unable to talk to Katsuhime in the crop field when she was sitting on the ground. She just wanted some peace and quiet!

Fixed an issue where tracking the "Temple Stories" quest only showed a progress bar with no text.

Fixed an issue where Genzaburo's Teppo Master was missing from the Kaya Shrine.

Fixed an issue where Yagyu Munetoshi revealed a later plot point too early in the "Nobutsuna's Students" quest.

Fixed an issue where players could not assassinate the Godai of Void because the NPC was missing. He took his name too seriously.

Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest after dodge rolling and dropping Katsuhime.

Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest when there was no immediate option to carry Katsuhime.

Fixed an issue where players glitched through an anomaly in the "Heads Will Roll" quest, making Animus activities unavailable.

Fixed an issue where players could not progress in the "Lost Honor" quest because the game failed to switch to Naoe.

Fixed an issue where players could not progress through the Tournament after dying.

VISUALS & GRAPHICS

Fixed some minor visual issues.

Fixed misplaced visual elements with the Dark Woods Kusarigama.

Fixed an issue where all NPC horses appeared as identical.

Fixed a clipping issue with Naoe's Sekiryu outfit.

Fixed an issue with the "Bloodshade Katana" being visible out of the sheath when transmogged.

Fixed a movement physics issue with the Dead by Daylight Oni's armor.

AUDIO

Fixed an issue where footstep audio occasionally ceased when opening the map while moving.

ADDENDUM

Multi-Select in shops and vendors has been re-added to the game with Title Update 1.0.6.
Kunai are now less frequently found and recovered from enemies on Hard Difficulty. Used Kunai cannot be recovered from enemies on Nightmare Difficulty.
Tools Master gear perk now uses Kunai from Naoe's inventory on Hard and Nightmare Difficulty.

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

“Thrown to the Dogs” Quest Unlocked

With this update, all players will receive access to the pre-order bonus quest, “Thrown to the Dogs”. Help a loyal dog avenge his late master and unlock Tsuki-maru as a pet to place in your Hideout.
The quest is available in early game, once you have completed “From Spark to Flame”. It can be found at the Tennoji Temple, outside of Osaka.

SPECIAL COLLABORATIONS

Dead By Daylight Event

We're excited to unveil our first special collaboration with this new Dead by Daylight event coming to Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
As villagers begin to disappear, Naoe becomes suspicious of the strange presence attacking the local people of Harima. To succeed, you will need to master unique mechanics and confront a formidable otherworldly threat...
This event comes with a new free quest that you can access from the Hideout upon unlocking Yasuke as a playable character. Once the event is completed, you will obtain a free trinket and banner.
You will also be able to further personalize your two characters with a Dead by Daylight-inspired pack in the store, featuring outfits, weapons, trinkets, and the chance to ride off into the shadows with none other than the loyal steed, Maurice.

Balatro Trinket

We are also adding a new trinket for Naoe, and an amulet for Yasuke called "Winning Hand" -- directly inspired by Balatro. These new items come with a legendary perk that gives you a chance to trigger a random affliction effect on combo enders.
Now... you will need to work together to figure out how to get it!

PARKOUR IMPROVEMENTS

The team has prepared a bunch of improvements to enhance the parkour mechanics. We want to give a big thank you to all our dedicated parkour players for their ongoing feedback since launch.
Here are the main changes:

New Vertical Jump

We're adding a brand-new parkour interaction allowing both Naoe and Yasuke to jump and grab any ledge, awnings or overhangs within reach, reducing the need to rely on vertical wall-runs. To trigger it, simply press the jump button as you approach low overhangs, and your character will make the jump.

Sprint Toggle Lock.

As long as the directional inputs are maintained, sprint no longer disengages when using Parkour Up or Parkour Down.

Enhanced Back and Side Ejects

We've also enhanced the distance and height of side & back ejects, favoring foot landings over hand landings. This includes new animations for Naoe when performing height-gaining side ejects, extending her capacity to remain high-up during parkour.

NEW PHOTO MODE FEATURES

Photo Mode is receiving its biggest update for an Assassin’s Creed game, with the addition of new features to better customize your shots and make the most out of capturing the beauty of Feudal Japan.
These include the following options:

Change the time of day
Play around with numerous poses and facial expressions
Toggle headgear on/off
Play music while editing your shots
Sticker colorization
New customization frames
Save Custom Filters
Reset only one parameter
Tweak camera speed
Improved preview mode
Fullscreen (PC only)

General

Fixed the issue where players had a persistent New Item notification in their inventory. We did it!
Addressed an issue where some players were given a new save file at level 60, with gear and all objectives uncovered.
Fixed an issue where the desynchronization warning for 'killing civilians' would appear without any reason.
Fixed an issue where romancing Lady Oichi before romancing Rin could cause a breakup.
Fixed various localization issues.

Balancing

Fixed an issue where the Samurai Daisho and Ronin occasionally gave an extremely high amount of Mon regardless of their level, disincentivizing other methods of gaining Mon.
We have also partially rebalanced the Mon economy to encourage more world exploration and gameplay activities to earn Crafting Materials and Hideout Resources instead of purchasing them through merchants.
In pursuit of this, we've bumped up the cost of Crafting Materials and Hideout Resources sold by Merchants and lowered the quantity available each season for each Merchant.
If you still want to purchase them, we’ve increased the amount of Mon acquired from completing contracts.

World

Fixed an issue where Yagoro would become trapped in a Kofun and not return to the hideout.
Fixed an issue where players could remain stuck inside the construction site at Osaka Castle.

Quests

Fixed an issue where players could not exit the quest "Vision of Realms" if they selected ‘Quit to Memories’ and loaded their progress from the Animus Memories menu.
Fixed an issue where quitting during the "Nobutsuna Sensei" quest caused Yasuke to become stuck in the flashback.
Fixed an issue where Yaya doesn't join "The League" after being successfully recruited.
Fixed progress issues in the "Showdown in Sakamoto" quest that happened if Katsuhime previously died.
Fixed an issue in the "Wake Up Call" quest where the "troublemaker" couldn't be hunted down.
Fixed an issue in the "Find Local Dishes" quest where Narezushi could not be obtained from merchants.
Fixed an issue in the "Wolves and Foxes" quest where players were not able to speak with Hattori Hanzo. I guess we'll let you talk to him now.
Fixed an issue where players could not progress in "A Peculiar Guest".
Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Missing Missive" quest due to being unable to retrieve the letter.
Fixed an issue where the game would crash during the "Temple of the Horseman (An Eye for an Eye)" quest.
Fixed an issue in the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest where Katsuhime's letter would sometimes disappear. You got mail!
Fixed an issue where the game incorrectly believed Katsuhime was dead and players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest.
Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest due to Naoe and Katsuhime being attached to surrounding water. They just wanted to go on a little swim!
Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest due to Katsuhime dropping into the water and swimming to shore.

Stealth

Fixed an issue where the Shinobi Bell effect was blocked by line of sight from NPCs.

Combat

Adjusted an issue where the +600% affliction buildup engravings was a text error. It now has been fixed to reflect the real build-up amount of 6%.

Visuals & Graphics

Fixed visual issues.
Fixed some issues where the "Kaen" and "Sekiryu" mounts would not fully fit in the stables.
Fixed a visual issue with the "Samurai Daimyo Armor".
Addressed an issue where players could sometimes see a giant NPC in towns.

Hideout

Improved stability for heavily customized Hideout.
Fixed an issue where players could sometimes not interact with Gennojo in the Hideout.

PLATFORM-SPECIFIC FIXES

Xbox

Addressed an issue where the gamertag would load indefinitely in the thumbnail of Photo Mode images on the World Map.
Addressed Mouse and Keyboard input issues.
Restored Balanced Performance Mode that was missing on Xbox Series X after Update 1.0.4.
NOTE: Balanced Performance Mode requires having the proper setup with a 120, 144, 165 or 240 Hz monitor.

New Free Story Pack: The Works of Luis Frois

An encounter with Luis Frois at a Jesuit Mission turns into an opportunity to help an old friend. Retrieve lost notes, protect Lady Satoko and learn more about the Jesuits in this new Free Story Pack playable with both Naoe or Yasuke.

To meet with Luis Frois and start the quest arc, head to Azuchi. Luis will be located south of the Merchants’ Quarters. The quest will be available upon completing “The Path he Walks”, in Yasuke’s Board.

Codex Update: Character Entries

As requested by many, we have added character bios in the Codex database to help you keep track of the many allies and foes you will meet throughout your journey in Japan.

LIST OF BUG FIXES

General

• Fixed an issue when pressing "Go to board" for "Complete Yasuke's personal journey" does not redirect the player to Yasuke's quest board.
• Fixed an issue where some trinkets could not be accessed in the Forge.
• Fixed some issues where visual customization could not be applied to certain weapons.
• Fixed a visual issue with the Red Bull trinket swapping between Yasuke and Naoe.
• Addressed several AI issues.
• Addressed several audio issues.

World

• All props near an altar or a religion building will now be static, preventing any destruction.
• Fixed an issue where too many deer spawning and running on main roads. Oh dear, watch out!
• Merchants will no longer offer multiple instances of the same item in shops.
• Fixed an issue where buying and equipping head gear would kick you from the merchant menu.

Quests

• Fixed an issue where in the quest “Astray”, players could not talk To Nakamura Tadashige.

NOTE: Players will need to step away from Nakamura Tadashige (+500 meters) and then come back to speak with them.

• Fixed an issue where Nagato would sometimes not follow the correct path in the prologue during the "Fight of the Kakushiba Ikki" quest.
• Fixed an issue where Momochi Sandayu does not attack during the objective "Kill the Soldier" in the "Fight of the Kakushiba Ikki" quest.
• Fixed an issue where Nagato would despawn after a save/load during the quest "The Onryo Samurai".
• A prompt will now properly appear to Observe during the objective "Reach a high place to observe the Onryo Samurai" in the quest "The Onryo Samurai".
• Addressed an issue with enemy NPCs fighting each other after talking to Shotei during "Against the Koga-ryu".
• Fixed an issue where Tokubei would start attacking anyone that enters conflict with the player during the "Confront Tokubei" objective of "Losing Hand" quest.

Stealth

• Fixed an issue where Improved Ground Assassination (Assassin passive skill) would not work properly.
• Fixed an issue where Assassinations would not remove any health from knocked-out enemies.
• Fixed an issue where, after performing a Double Assassination, Naoe could not swap weapons if she was using the Katana as primary weapon.
• Fixed an issue with Yasuke’s Brutal Assassination not triggering at a certain distance with NPCs.
• Fixed Guaranteed Assassination not working with the kunai.
• Fixed an issue where Naoe could use smoke bombs to trigger Guaranteed Assassination opportunities on bosses.
• Fixed an issue where crouching during a Sprint Dodge would increase the speed of the crouch state.
• Fixed an issue where Naoe had a delay when crouching after moving while aiming a tool.
• Fixed an issue where corner cover camera would not always trigger.
• Fixed an issue with alarm bells respawning after cutscenes. Please don't ring. Please don't ring. Please don't ring.

Combat

• Adjusted the Igan Sunset Tanto perk (i.e. slow down time on Escape Strike) to prevent endless slow-down when using Escape Strike repeatedly.
o The perk now works as follows: “Slow down time after Escape Strike interrupts enemies”
• Fixed an issue with the Snake Bite ability (Kusarigama) costing more than one chunk of adrenaline. Two fangs. But one bite.
• Fixed an issue where the "Crescent Strike” ability (Naginata) did not deal any damage on its first hit.
• Fixed various issues with perks not functioning correctly.
• Fixed an issue where letters displayed on screen would not automatically close when the player would enter conflict. Listen I’m just trying to read here.
• Fixed an issue where Naoe cannot dodge if she first attacks the Ashigaru Swordsman with a posture attack during "Fight of the Kakushiba Ikki" quest.
• Fixed an issue where the ability wheel would still display the abilities from the previously equipped weapon when being unarmed.

Visuals & Graphics

• Fixed several animation, visual or misplacement issues.
• Fixed various rendering issues.

UI & HUD

• Addressed various UI/HUD issues.
• Addressed localization issues.
• Fixed an issue with the tutorial explaining how to use boats. How do you row this thing?
• Fixed an issue where the four targets of the Pirate Alliance were not aligned on the Objective Board.
• Fixed an issue where the drop-down list is missing for "Text Color" and "Background Color" options in the Captions menu.

Photo Mode

• Fixed various visual issues with Photo Mode.
• Fixed an issue where the last known position visual effect remained visible in Photo Mode.
• Fixed an issue where the Codex Orbs remained present in Photo Mode.
• Fixed an issue where the vignette effect size increases when decreasing the value in Photo Mode.

Hideout

• Fixed an issue where the blacksmith was missing from the hideout. I must upgrade my weapons!
• Fixed an issue where some trinkets could not be accessed in the Forge.
Stability & Performances
• Addressed various crashing and stability issues.

Platform-Specific issues

Xbox

• Fixed an issue where the "Balanced" mode was missing in the Performance options.

• VRAM usage is now added to the performance overlay when using the benchmark tool.
• Improved description in the Scalability options to better reflect the impact on CPU and GPU.
• Addressed an issue with conflicting bindings for mouse & keyboard on PC.
• Fixed an issue where the VRAM meter doesn't accurately update the VRAM usage when settings are individually changed.
• Addressed an issue with PC using Photo Mode with the Ultra-wide screen settings .

STEAMDECK

• Addressed an issue where there was a heavy loss of FPS in the opening animation before arriving at the Animus HUB (memories).

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Post launch Roadmap Update

Hello Assassins,

It’s already been a month since the launch of AC Shadows! It’s been thrilling to see millions of you enjoying the game. But now, it’s time for us to look towards the future and reveal a little more about our post-launch plans.

Beyond the usual stability and balancing updates, we plan on dropping free updates on the regular with the goal of continually enrich the experience. Along with the ever-changing Animus content, you can expect new immersion customization options, new difficulty settings, new modes, the highly requested New Game+, free quests showcasing fan-favorite characters, a few very special collaborations, and we are at hard at work on community-driven improvements.

CLAWS OF AWAJI

First and foremost, we have our first expansion - the Claws of Awaji - coming later this year. Free to all players who pre-ordered AC Shadows, this expansion opens up the island of Awaji – a brand-new region for you to explore which continues Naoe and Yasuke’s story right after the end of Shadows’ epilogue. NEW STORY DROPS

The coming months of post-launch will also include multiple free content additions we're calling Story Drops. These new free quests will introduce new player abilities, new allies, new world activities, and provide deeper looks and backstories for some of your favorite characters, each new piece of content expanding on the main game. Our first story drop will be part of the Early May update and is called “The Works of Luis Frois”: it will give you a deeper look at the titular historical Jesuit scholar who’s work about the Sengoku period of Japan endures to this day.

PARKOUR UPDATES

For all you deep parkour enthusiasts, we’ll be adding new parkour interactions and optimization, with the first update coming later in May. In this first update, we’ll be adding the often-requested height-gaining back-ejects, fully re-animated height-gaining side-ejects, and a brand-new parkour move called the Vertical Ledge Jump, allowing both characters to jump and grab onto awnings and lower overhangs – a move that is particularly handy when wall-runs are not an option. We’ll be adding more little parkour tricks and improvements over the course of the year as we perfect them to keep you on your toes!

PHOTO MODE UPDATE

Alongside Parkour, we’re expanding the Photo Mode with new filters and stickers, new character poses and facial expressions, and even adding ambient music for you to enjoy. All targeted at giving you more options and comfort when it comes to capturing the beauty of Feudal Japan.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK UPDATES

Community feedback has been a core focus of the team throughout development and that’s not stopping now that Shadows is released. On April 8, we have deployed our first major patch, which has fixed a number of bugs and brought numerous quality-of-life improvements, such as Horse-auto follow, urban speed improvements, single mastery nodes reset, and multi-item selection at merchants and at your forge. We’ll be dropping our second Community Feedback Update in June, which will allow you to toggle your Head Gear on during dialogues and cutscenes, as well as customize your immersion further: you’ll be free to disable individual visual effects such as weapon glints during combat, black-and-white (and red) ability filters, target assassination celebration effects, and disabling stealth outlines when your characters is vanished. We are also expanding the Alarm System and are bringing it to the Open-World to give you even more challenge!

MORE TO COME ON THE REGULAR

Future updates will bring more free Animus Hub content, a pretty fleshed-out New Game + mode, which will also raise the level cap, and for those of you looking for a challenge, we are hard at work on an even tougher difficulty setting for both combat and stealth that should leave none of you unscathed…

Our plan is to drop these free updates on a regular basis, keeping the experience fresh, enjoyable, and always improving. Not to be coy, but we’re also keeping a bunch of surprises under wraps and will be revealing special collaborations and other cool updates soon.

Game Improvements

The team has been working on a first batch of improvements following your feedback since launch.

Horse Auto-Follow and Speed improvements

Auto-Follow the road is back to help you navigate while riding your horse. Simply activate the pathfinder to enable Auto-Follow, and your horse will automatically follow the road to your marked destination.

We've also increased horse speeds in cities so you can get to your destination faster.

Mastery Nodes Reset

Is your stealth build not sneaky enough? Could Yasuke pack a heavier punch? We've added the option to reset Mastery Nodes in the skill trees so you can test different playstyles and skills for both Naoe and Yasuke.

Selling / Dismantling multiple items

We know you've been hard at work exploring every corner of Feudal Japan, and that means you've filled your pockets with resources and loot.

To help you save time when trading with merchants, we've added the option to tag and sell/dismantle multiple items in shops, or when dismantling gear at the Forge in the Hideout.

Investigation Board Shortcut

The Investigation Board is central to your journey, and we've added a new shortcut for direct access while in-game.

With Title Update 1.0.2, holding the OPTION & START button for a few seconds will take you directly to the Investigation Board, while a single press will open the inventory menu.

This update now allows you to easily launch the World Map, Inventory, or Investigation Board smoothly as you play.

Playstation®5 Pro specific improvements

We're excited to also bring key improvements to the Playstation®5 Pro version of Shadows that will enhance the visual quality of the experience.

Added PSSR support for PS5 pro

Please note that players who have been playing on Playstation®5 Pro prior to Title Update 1.0.2 will need to manually enable PSSR in the video tab of the pause menu.
Balanced mode will now feature Raytraced Specular.
I.e. Visual fidelity will be closer to Playstation®5 Pro Quality mode than Performance mode.

Other Key Improvements

Quests

Fixed multiple quest issues with markers failing to spawn or characters not being interactable.
Addressed an issue where Ise Sadatame can be killed after reviving him while previously being knocked down by explosives during 'Escort Ise Sadatame' objective in Yamashiro.
During "The Wheel Unmasked" quest, some players cannot exit the quest or quit to memories when selecting the options from the menu.
Players will no longer be stuck in the Objective board tutorial after loading into the first Naoe memory if completed after 'From Spark to Flames'.
Fixed an issue in 'A True Igan' meditation, where the Eavesdrop objective cannot be completed if Naoe kills the Oda clan Ashigaru before reaching the objective location.
Fixed an issue in 'Brothers in Arms' quest where the quest can't progress by talking to ronin if the prisoners were freed first.
In 'Flames of War', the Igan leader will now fight back.
'Wake Up Call': An issue where Nagato won't attack Naoe once he enters the Guard Break state during the 'Duel with Nagato' objective.
'Wake up Call': Objectives during the 'Duel with Nagato' now correctly update.
Kumabe Ujiie no longer stops walking after talking with one of the ronins if the player doesn't follow him immediately during 'Follow Kumabe Ujiie' objective.
Players are no longer rolled back to the beginning quest and stealth sequence if they die to the brute in 'Shinobi Warfare'.
Addressed an issue where Sanada Masatoyo only uses one attack if Yasuke stays close to him during 'Nobutsuna's Students' objective.
Yoshisada can now be interrupted while drinking his health potion in 'Silver Smugglers'.
Addressed an issue where the game crashes after killing an NPC in 'The Stray Dogs'.
During the 'Protect the Dog' objective, enemies are now identifiable with quest markers and are easier to find.

'The Price of Rice': fixed an issue where the Drunk Samurai will not attack Naoe if he takes damage from an Assassination attempt while unconscious.

'Mibuno Showdown': Corrected an issue so players can now deal damage to Momochi Sandayu during transition to phase 2.
Fixed an issue where Momochi Sandayu would stop fighting during 'Duel Momochi Sandayu' objective.
Players are no longer desynchronized if they attack and kill Usami Yoshiko in 'The Betrayers' quest.
Addressed an issue where Yasuke could use allies before agreeing to ally with Naoe.
Fixed an issue where Hattori Hanzo wouldn't move after the user switches to Yasuke during 'Wolves and Foxes'.

Stealth

Improved Double Assassinations.

Save Files

Corrected an error that blocked manual saves after completing the 'Heart of an Assassin' quest.
Fixed an issue where a "save game" is performed if players are dead or dying.
Addressed an issue where no autosave is created before starting a contract quest.
Reason/Error Code messages are now correctly displayed for corrupted save files.

World

Fixed an issue where there was no snow in winter. Frosty's back!

World Activities

Naoe can no longer enter Yasuke's Kofuns. Get out of my room.
Addressed an issue where players could pass through movable objects while sprinting inside kofuns.
Fixed an issue where animals could flee while the sumi-e UI is still present during heavy rain if players performed a save/load.
Legendary deer will now properly despawn after being drawn in the sumi-e activity.
Corrected an issue where Naoe's scroll would be missing whilst painting the Legendary Sakura Shika Deer in the sumi-e activity.

Hideout

Uncapped the Hideout to above 30 FPS on Performance mode.
Various stability and visual improvements to build mode.
Fixed an issue where players were able to use weapons inside the Hideout.
Cursor no longer trembles when building pavement and moving the camera in the Hideout building mode.
The experience gained bonus received after building the Tera in the Hideout is now correctly applied to both characters.

Progression, Skills and Perks

The Switch Character option is now correctly greyed out in the inventory menu when it is unavailable.
Addressed an issue where resetting active abilities didn't remove them from their ability slot.
Fixed an issue where the user cannot reach the maximum Mastery Points after fully upgrading the 'Teppo Skill Tree'.

Platform-Specific issues

Players can now toggle between DRS and fixed resolution modes, regardless of upscaler quality.
Fixed an issue where the overall preset was set to Custom in the Scalability menu after changing the preset and reloading the game.
Fixed various mouse and keyboard issues.

Steam Deck

Fixed an issue where observe targets were not visible from 80m on Steam Deck.
Corrected an error where the default controller configuration didn't show the button actions for L2 and R2 on Steam Deck.

Mac OS

RTSpec can now be enabled for high-end Macs.
Mouse and keyboard now work correctly when the game boots in windowed mode.
Fixed the HDR toggle so it doesn't remain on after toggling off or switching to a non-HDR display.
Fixed the mouse cursor remaining on the screen after pressing home button while using a controller.
"Save Report" prompt is now visible in the Benchmark results screen.
The mouse is no longer tracked when outside of the game window.

Fixes specific to Playstation®5 & Playstation®5 Pro

Fixed button prompts for "Internet Connection Lost" messages when players would lose connection during audio language pack downloads.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam: Everything You Need to Know

Achievements

There are many Steam achievements available for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and all of them can be earned in a single playthrough, regardless of story choices or difficulty level. They are earned not only by playing through the main story, but also by exploring the world, completing different activities, upgrading the Hideout, meeting allies, and more.

Badges and Trading Cards

As you play Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll automatically earn bespoke trading cards for the game. There are nine available cards in total; you can earn about half just by playing and can obtain the other half by trading with other players. Once you have a full deck, you can use it to craft themed badges. For every badge you craft, you’ll also receive randomly generated Assassin’s Creed Shadows emoticon and background.

Steam Deck Verified

If you want to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the go, the game is Steam Deck verified. At launch, graphical settings will be locked, but you can choose which upscalers you want, and the team is working on including more options with future updates.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Cultural Discovery Codex

Assassin's Creed Shadows, launching on March 20, will continue the series’ tradition of bringing players closer to history with a section of its database titled “Cultural Discovery.” As part of the in-game Codex, this feature offers players carefully selected encyclopedic entries on the history, art, and culture of the Azuchi-Momoyama period. This cultural encyclopedia was written by historians and includes images from museums and institutions.

Similar to the History of Baghdad feature in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Cultural Discovery will be integrated into the main game of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and is tied to player progression. Cultural Discovery contains almost two times as many entries as the History of Baghdad, with more than 125 entries at launch, and more to come.

As players visit sites that provide a historical and cultural exploration of 16th-century Japan, they will unlock articles on the economy, castles, military affairs, daily life, historical figures, and events.

One notable cultural codex entry, shown above, features an exclusive replica of a Kabuto, or Japanese war helmet, that symbolizes the first contact between Japan and Spain. The original Kabuto is part of one of the oldest collections of Japanese armor in Europe, and is kept at the Royal Armory in Madrid. This Kabuto had been almost entirely damaged during the fire suffered by the Royal Armory on July 10, 1884. Ubisoft, Patrimonio Nacional, and Spanish company Factum Arte joined forces to recover what was left of this Feudal Japan relic, create a faithful physical reconstruction of it, and make it accessible to people around the world through its inclusion in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The physical replica from Factum Arte will become part of the Royal Armory of Madrid’s collection.

"Working with Ubisoft has allowed us to recover the original appearance of a unique relic and preserve it in the digital world. The partnership will also allow us to bring the Kabuto close to people all over the world and capture the attention of younger audiences, using Assassin’s Creed Shadows as a platform to put it in context and to make its history known,” said Álvaro Soler del Campo, Head of the Department of the Royal Armory of the Royal Palace of Madrid, belonging to Patrimonio Nacional.

The entry above features art of Osaka Castle created by artist Gentaro Kagawa who provided significant contributions to Cultural Discovery. before his recent passing in December 2024. Kagawa graduated from the Graduate School of Japanese Painting at Musashino Art University and became a historical research illustrator. He received the Japan Castle Culture Special Award in April 2023.

Ubisoft also worked with several historians on writing entries for the cultural codex, including Professor Pierre-Francois Souyri.

“Writing the codex was quite challenging because I had to explain things clearly and concisely while adhering to the format. This meant making choices—elaborating on one point while leaving out another. Overall, it was an enjoyable task, and I must admit that I learned a great deal myself. In fact, this project inspired the idea for my new book on ninjas.”
