Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Question
I had a PC that just failed and have now had to buy an off the shelf 'gaming' PC and I can't seem to find how this stack up to my late GeForce GTX 1080 . I cant seem to find one of those comparison tables so I have no idea where it stands.

Anyone help me out please?

Userbenchmarks says the 5060 is 66% better than the 1080.

The 1080 is still ranked a very respectable 71st place in overall GPU ranking while the 5060 is currently coming in 28th.

Your benchmark may vary but the 5060 is obviously the far more capable card in 2025.

Pretty much just google or bing for "model A" Vs "model B" and you will inevitable land on this site.

I got a 5070 upgraded from 1080. Runs everything much faster and smoother and runs 1440p flawless

TechPowerUp's relative performance chart puts it at 85% better than a GTX 1080: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-5060.c4219

An 8GB card in 2025 is hard to recommend though, even at 1080p resolution. You can make do with one (I have an RTX 3060 Ti that I got three years ago) but for buying something new right now I would push for something better. A 16GB 5060 Ti,16GB 9060 XT or one of the 12GB cards (like the RTX 5070 mentioned by a user above) if any of those are within your budget.

I suppose it depends on what games you play but if you're playing the latest releases you might find yourself VRAM limited going forward with an 8GB card. Just something to be aware of.

i agree 8gb is pathetic, considering the liberal usage of resources of the software of today. yet another trash product, made for nothing but to enrich the maker.
just get another 1080, id say, if thats what failed.

then your pc failed?! like how did it totally failed, so it needs a full replacement?
this topic smells like a nv ad - "5060 is much better than 1080. upscalling delight! buy now!" "what 1080 can render in 4k, 5060 can render in 720p with more fps!!"

This PC was bought not for the purposes of gaming excellence for once as I have done for the last 30 years. It is a just a get-by PC aimed at seeing me through to my end of life illness (a few months)

Damn brother, hang in there.

I will - that's very kind thanks :-)

I just now use it for emails to finish 'business' and I have installed my first steam game and one of my favourite games and one I have played so much - Far cry (1)

A couple of Tower Defense and match 3 games will keep me busy enough so no graphics pressure. I dislike (now) most of the game I own and haven't bought a Triple A game for well over a year.

If Ride 3 plays well I will be a happy boy. Next on the install list :-)
