You don't unless you're using the overlay. If you want it open in Steam you open it from Steam.

Here's a hopefully more useful answer, for what you're probably really asking about (if not, then it's something someone will ask about, so this will still help someone).

If you get a URL like
https://store.steampowered.com/app/365720/Skyrim_Script_Extender_SKSE/
for a specific game or DLC or utility on Steam:

  1. You go to that URL in your Web browser. This takes you to the Web interface of the Steam Store.
  2. At the resulting page, you'll be given another link to install it via the Steam client application, at the real Steam Store.
  3. You click that, and you'll either:
    • go right into Steam client, to that game/mod/tool's page in the Steam Store;
    • or be prompted by your OS whether to open such "steam://" URLs in the Steam client (if it's your first time clicking on one), and you agree that is what you want, then you get into Steam at the right page.

It really is pretty stupid that we can't simply enter these into the browser interface of Steam itself, but it's locked down so that the URL bar is read-only, despite numerous complaints about this. But, frankly, lots of things about Steam are "user-hateful", so this isn't exactly a surprise.

Easier to copy/paste it to your profile comments or a chat and click on it.

Thank you. It's a pathetic solution but it seems to be the only one that works. Nice job!

The link to run a game from a browser is formatted like this
steam://run/244850
paste that in browser and it will run the game if you have it that is for space engineers

Wow, this is pathetic that this is what has to be done... I'm eternally grateful for the solution, but like.. what the heck, Steam. You have a URL bar that you can't copy into? What's the point?
