I tried changing region of download in my settings, clearing download cache, I used command "steam://flushconfig" and tried to delete some of the files manually and run Steam.exe as administrator. I restarted my PC, router and Steam multiple times as well.
As of yet I have no luck and the problem persists. In my 15 years of experience with Steam this is the first time I have anything like this!
same here. 7days to die worked fine yesterday, today when i try to play it gets stuck trying to download that. never happend before everything usually works fine
going to steam-settings-downloads-clear downloads cache fixed it for me
I guess I would have to try this one out if situation doesn't improve soon...
This change is not compatible with old clients that could still run on Windows 7 and future content changes will be made using this compression algorithm, resulting in a loss of access to downloads and updates.
As Valve has ended support for Windows 7 since January 1st, 2024, and therefore won't update their client for the use of Windows 7, your officially supported options are:
* Upgrade to Windows 10 (End of Life by October 2025 unless enrolled into ESU)
* Upgrade to Windows 11
* Install Linux Mint and play Windows only games using Proton
Thanks, my friend! :) So it's a strange compression issue after all...
Is there any way to patch it somehow?
Is this feature in Steam a combination of a feature from/in Windows 10?
Steam is down for routine maintenance every Tuesday.
Maybe I missed something. Or just misunderstood you. I'm very bad at English and am using Google Translate for this whole thing... :D
Edit: You meant the options to switch to Win10/11 or Linux, kk :)
I have all of these OS, but I'm still looking for Windows 7 solutions :D
2. If I understand correctly, it's about the "zstd compression," which isn't natively integrated in Windows 7, but can be used with third-party software. For example, with 7z.
If this compression is included in Steam and the corresponding DLLs, why shouldn't it work in Windows 7?
- (By the way, I was able to update to the latest Steam version, June 30, 2025, with a launch parameter -no-cef-sandbox, which can be removed after the update, and Steam starts even without this command.)
- So, I'm looking for the dependencies on how Steam's query works, which DLLs are requested under Windows 10/11... There should definitely be a way to fix this?! Or not?
3. If the above is true, I don't quite understand why Steam didn't integrate its own support entirely? Because it would have been too complicated or would have cost more licenses than using the existing one in Windows 10/11? (<-I know, sometimes I'm great at answering questions right away xD)
