Steam should shut all the way down.
When I close Steam on W7 64-bit it leaves two processes chatting over the network.
Do you have a force close option or some method to get Steam to actually, really stop running?
If not, you should.

How are you "closing" Steam? Are you just pressing the "X" in the corner or are you actually selecting the "Exit" option?

Clicking the "X" just minimises the program to the tray (So you can stay connected to Friend-Chat and still be able to get your game downloads even without the main window open).

Thanks. Been a Mac user just a little too long.

Even on normal sign-out steam still hangs around (steam.exe and steamservice.exe). I usually watch to make sure both close before I move on to other things, but sometimes the will just stay there forever. I do force-quit them when I see they're still running. Wonder if Gabe Newell's wachin' meeee...

I normally hire the mercanary they call "Task Manager" to kill off those sort of processes. He's very efficient.

FYI: why do you guys bother?
Anyway, it would be neat to at least have a setting to CLOSE Steam when clicking X. It's not like the TNA icon is of any use with Windows 7/8.

Yes, I do as well, it just seemed like I would prefer it to just quit when told to. I will switch to using Exit tonight and see how it goes.
