Give some stray pals some food and shelter.
I wouldn't put up with that, I tell them, had a guy in tears as he knew I was right. The other people left I presume and were replaced?
Typo.
I try to hold my tongue because I don't want there to be tension or bad vibes between me and my colleagues but if I don't say anything, they're just going to get worse and worse I feel like.
I wish I didn't care about my work ethic so much, maybe then I wouldn't be effected by other peoples either. The thing that angers me the most is they never admit or accept they're working slowly / badly because they can't be bothered or whatever. There's ALWAYS some excuse or reason to justify why I have to pick up their slack.
It's obviously stressing you out, why put up with that feeling? You feel strong about it judging by your post here. Personally, I clear the air, then we know where we stand. The guy I was referring to was bone idle and doing next to nothing, I put up with it for a while in case he was ill or just having a bad day, it continued, so I spoke to him. I did feel a bit guilty afterwards when he burst in to tears, but things improved for a while then he quit, good riddance, unfortunately, I felt no sympathy for him as he was just lazy.
at least there's video games to relax a bit
It is indirect
and it uses high context.
Communication in English is mainly about avoiding pain and pleasing, rather than communicating useful information, despite the words it uses having more direct meanings.
"Would you like some cream?" (instead of "milk")
"I'm perfect." (Instead of "No") (can be followed up with "thanks" or "thank you" which adds 'care', and politeness to it; but it's not obligated.)
"How are you!" (instead of "Good to see you.")
The language use, the culture, it in itself lies.
and this gets worse when a negative message needs to be delivered, such as critique.
Sometimes so much so that people even those born in the UK miss the point.
"Sorry, I don't feel like doing that at the moment. Maybe some other day."
It's very difficult to say something like that, so instead, they say "Sounds like fun, sure..."
and they then make you wait at the agreed upon location, at the agreed upon time
unless you happen to notice the tone in their voice, which they tried to hide.
>..>;
Try visiting the netherlands or germany. You'll notice it is really the culture.

Edit:
Just saying, but honesty is considered polite and caring in the Netherlands. People here actually appreciate harsh feedback and critique. It's probably why they have that saying about a dutch parent in the UK, where it is seen as hostile.
It depends on how you perceive it. We see it as someone who cares about the job, about us, and wants everyone to just be a team. We realize that they have been carefully examining us as well, and that we made them uncomfortable, so-... yeah- you wouldn't get attacked for it at all.
Only very selfcentered types would start to mock or say "calm down" or something, which is a couple of people per group of 10, but most ... they take it with a smile I guess?
It migh take some getting used to for people who think a smile must be some kind of mockery. It's not.
Point is, from my pov you're not a terrible person if you were to complain a bit out loud.
So anyway I'd understand that feeling. The constant battle against incompetence and the burden of carrying others.
But honestly, if you're supposingly carrying the team and it's wrecking you, just ditch it. Seriously. No point in being miserable.
