The only ways are buying things, or getting awards. There's really nothing to spend points on anyway though, once I set my profile up I was like... now what? I just waste them on seasonal badges now.

Just head to the forums where insecure, self-important users lurk. Places like Suggestions/Ideas or VAC Discussion. Post something irredeemably idiotic so they can feel clever piling on you and tearing you apart. Keep playing dumb, and eventually, they'll start flinging awards at you to try and shame you.

Create/Upload some art that people like or take some nice screenshots from games you enjoy and sometimes you'll get awards.

Or, make mods for games that have the Steam Workshop.
