Article 10 only allows European nations to join. Turkey is already a borderline case because of that, although the case has been argued that it is part of Europe[ec.europa.eu]. I haven't read that document by the way, so no idea if it's just a load of hooey or not but meh, it's a six page essay which is quite frankly more than I ever wrote or read on the subject of Turkey so I have to have a modicum of respect for that.

The U.S.A. spends more on its military than the whole rest of N.A.T.O. combined and it's not a poor nation. It is not especially wealthy relative to its allies either but y'know, it is at least fair.

Um, no.

See, the problem is, while Israel has a very good defence system, a reasonable number of multirole jets and lots of tanks, and cannon fodder, they have a few problems.

1. Their navy sucks.
2. They are surrounded buy hostile countries.
3. They have a massive oil, coal and gas deficit, making them reliant on imports, and thus vulnerable in a prolonged conflict, as tanks and jets without fuel are nothing more than scrap metal.

Without going for the obvious, France, Germany and Italy are easily stronger, militarily than Israel.

Because Israel already has the full armed might of US at beck and call plus they want to be free to attack whomever they want without bureaucracy and rules of engagement. Currently, Gaza, Syria, and Iran.
