Steam randomly prompts to uninstall multiple games (Linux)
While Steam is running, whether fullscreen, minimised, or running in the background the uninstall prompt will randomly pop up asking "Would you like to uninstall these selected titles from your device..."

It appears regardless of what is open and changes focus to the prompt. Even without any mouse/keyboard input it appears. With the in-game overlay disabled it still tabs me out of fullscreen games/apps. It does this several times within the span of a minute or randomly after a while. The prompt has randomly popped up 4 times while writing this bug report.

OS: Fedora 38 (Workstation Edition) | GNOME 44.5 | Wayland
Steam Version: 1697054560

STEPS:
  • Open Steam
  • Interact with desktop and programs
  • Wait for uninstall prompt to randomly appear

It goes without saying that the uninstall prompt should not be appearing at random, especially when Steam is minimised, and not when another program is fullscreen. Multiple games are somehow being selected and prompted for uninstallation without any input.

Here is a Short Video[streamable.com] of the bug

----

EDIT: The bug appears to have stopped. Haven't had it happen since the 16th.

----

EDIT 2: I have not had this issue since, I am now on CachyOS+KDE, but a few Hyprland users have commented about it.

Reupload of dead Streamable link to YouTube.

You've been hacked at the OS level.

This just started happening to me after the latest Steam update (introducing game recording) on Arch Linux. Sometimes it also grays out the main Steam windows and pops up the "Shutting down..." dialog box but gets stuck there.

Has anyone been able to find a solution to these issues?

same as #7, please fix it. I use nixos and wayland. Both the uninstall prompt and the steamwebhelper chat windows pops up randomly when running dota2.

I also have this bug, similar to the previous two posters. It started within one week ago. Besides the "uninstall titles" popup, I also get various "Steam need to update Audio driver" and "Steam need to update your playstation controller firmware" (I have never owned a playstation controller), along with a few other update prompts.

I use Ubuntu 24.04.

Same bug here. Where should we report this?
Happy new year, this ♥♥♥♥ still happens even on my machine
Same Issues as everyone else describes, I wrote to steam support but they replied the same old "Yea you're not using Ubuntu so go ♥♥♥♥ yourself"
