Dead game: the game

Records mode is very good. AI is very sharp in punishing mistakes by the player on the map making the game challenging but fair. Map is a large landmass with many factions meaning that properly managing your armies can be a complicated but rewarding task. Diplomacy and espionage both work better than in any other Total War game. Characters in the game are interesting and very well utilised, but it can take a while to figure out all of the different ways in which they can be used. The faction and city upgrade systems work very well and allow a huge amount of freedom in your choice of strategy. It is clear that the mechanics of the game are heavily inspired by Sun Tzu's Art of War, more so than other entries in the series which is fitting for the Chinese setting. This is also the only Total War in which I have never experienced any game crashes or any graphical glitches or major bugs. I did encounter a couple of minor bugs, but they were not a problem.

The only negative is poor battle AI mechanics. The AI is generally very eager to march their army directly towards yours, even if you are the battle initiator and it would be far easier for them to defend (they almost always abandon their minor defensive fortifications, and if they don't it is easy to make the entire army do so using a single archer unit as harassment). This leads to an even bigger weakness in large battles with multiple armies, because rather than march their armies together and then attack (or defend) as a combined unit, each army will simply march towards the larger part of your army, and by the time the second AI army has arrived to the battle, the AI's first army is likely already in pieces.

I did not try Romance mode and I do not like the sound of it, but overall I would say the Records mode of this game is the best version of Total War yet.

No vent crawling?

If you like the look of the art style, then you should play this game.

Brilliant RPG, this system will hopefully form the basis of many RPG games to come in the future.

Very fast to get in to games, can't detect any lag in around twenty matches.
All the games work well in singleplayer and the multiplayer is fun.
Training mode is a nice addition for anybody who will want to get good at these games.

The lobby system looks pretty bad but the matchmaking is great.
And the gameplay is more exciting than SFV.

My arcade stick (Eightarc Fusion) worked straight away without any set-up.

A fantastic RTS game, the gameplay is challenging, satisfying and addictive.
If the online community stays around for years to come then it will always bring me back to play another game.

One of my all time favourites.

But it can be a bit overwhelming for first time players.

Ran in to multiple game breaking bugs (in the main story no less), this is years after release and there are still no patches by Bethesda.
They continue to pump out more paid content regardless.
