Due to the remake's recent release, I thought I'd try my hand at the original game first so that I can compare the OG with the remake to see if it was faithful or not, I reckon it would be fun so I did just that. I now regret ever having that damned thought because playing this game is like getting your eyes stabbed 150 times with a screwdriver. I have genuinely never had more of a terrible time playing a game ever and I regularly play Overwatch 2 so you know this is god awful.


Lets start of with the pros just to get this minor part of the review out the way. The story is great, gameplay is solid with good combat sequences and interesting, unique puzzles involving anti-gravity sections as well as puzzles requiring you to use the tools you have at your disposal. The atmosphere of the ship is honestly terrifying which makes navigating through it suspenseful as you never know what will turn the corner. Talking about navigation, this game has an awesome feature where if you press ctrl the game directly points you to your objective so you never have to wander around aimlessly trying to find where your next objective is in this massive ass ship. In terms of Combat, you have tons of different weapons to try out at the shop each ranging completely from one another, from classics like the flamethrower to guns that can shoot spinning razor blades at your enemies, you have many methods to choose from when it comes to tearing your enemies into fleshy stains on the ground. This game is truly something special, too bad the pc port of the original game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ so onto the cons.


Right let me start with the absolutely horrendous mouse sensitivity problem with this game. Like how do you mess up one of the most basic aspects of any video game? And the fact they just decided to release the game with this colossal issue baffles me every time I think about it. To counteract this issue the community made a fix to the problem themselves so I had to download that before I got anywhere remotely far into the game. With that being solved, I thought with such an issue fixed I shouldn't come across any other significant problems with the game but oh was I wrong. Apparently this game deeply revolves around the amount of frames your computer can pump out while running the game, so much so that if you get anything higher than 100 fps in this already 15 year old game, everything around you will cease to work properly. Invisible doors, constant crashing, ragdolls gliding across the floor, Items flying through the air, sudden periods where Isaac moves really slow and periods where he speeds up for no logical reason. It is truly a sight to behold. To fix this, all you have to do is cap your fps to preferably 60 but nothing higher than 100. Or so I was told because despite my efforts to make sure my game was only running at 60 fps I was still experiencing bugs like ragdolls gliding across the floor and items being slammed around, with only the invisible doors and constant crashes being fixed. It was clear that I was going to have to play the rest of the game in this mangled up state so I just bit my tongue and continued playing this abhorrent game. If the bugs ended here, I would say I could more or less tolerate the trash but nope, apparently this game likes to just kill you for no reason during the anti-gravity areas which at one point made the game unplayable, anytime I would be about to complete the puzzle I would just drop dead for no reason to then have to do the whole puzzle a second time. TOO THEN DIE AGAIN! I was in this loop for god knows how long before I was able to do it without getting killed by some inexplicable force. For the majority of the playthrough I just wanted to finish the game as fast as I possibly could so that I could move onto the remake as every second that went past felt like torture. Hard to get Immersed in a game when everything is broken and defying the laws of physics. And I thought Cyberpunk 2077 was buggy. By the time I finished the game I was a husk of my former self, I couldn't eat or sleep for days as all I could remember was those Vietnam flashbacks of me playing the game, I'm even considering going to therapy.


Initially I wasn't going to write a review on this game but after being traumatised I just had to get my thoughts out. This game is a buggy mess and a genuine waste of your time, the console version of dead space is considered a masterpiece but the pc port of the game is nothing more than a dumpster fire. If you want to play dead space, buy the remake not this crap. This version of the game has aged like milk and I would rather have a powerlifter maxed out on tren ram a horribly rotten watermelon up my ass than play this game again.
