Early Access Review
I got this game at launch and was kinda disappointed, I didn't think it was anywhere near as fluid or fun as the original Hades. so I quit playing it and forgot I owned it until I booted it up on my steam deck recently.

I'm happy to say they have long since fixed every issue I had, and I honestly think I like this game more than the original, and it's not even done yet.

that's it, that's the review, I said all that needs to be said.

honestly, a very underrated fighting game. there's a really fun and in-depth fighting game behind the fan service, with a cast full of diverse movesets. I honestly recommend this game, especially on steam deck where it runs like a dream and is perfect for quick play sessions.

an important note for playing on steam deck though, make sure to use these launch options (thanks protonDB) PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%

don't let my playtime fool you, I have put in a lot of hours into this game through parsec with friends and played a lot of NASB1 as well. NASB1 was frankly a pretty lousy game, no voice acting, no colors, lazy skins, jank mechanics, bad balancing, overall just a bad time that I regret purchasing.

so honestly I was pretty shocked when NASB2 got announced, I figured NASB1 did so poorly we wouldn't get a sequel but I was a little excited to see them getting a second chance... but I did not forget about the lackluster quality of NASB1.

a lot of my fears about NASB2 came true when i realized they cut a bunch of characters out from the original roster leaving the final roster barely even bigger than the original game, but when the game dropped I wound up having A LOT of fun. as a massive avatar fan it was nice to see aang and korra being INFINITELY less jank than they were back in NASB1, and azulas OP ass was tons of fun. in general I felt almost every char in this game was pretty fun to play at launch, they all had sauce and some gross ♥♥♥♥ that made them fun.

but that's the problem, AT LAUNCH this game was sooo fun but this game suffered from over balancing to the point of literally removing the only things that made characters fun. at launch gertie could cancel her side special on hit letting her fly across the screen with insane momentum. it was barely controllable but it was SO fun and badass to land trickshots with the insane burst of speed, that has since been REMOVED.

that right there is part of why this is a "do not recommend" from me, their balancing choices make NO sense at all. korra's down special is a metal whip, the sweetspot of the whip pulls enemies closer to her, that is the SINGLE purpose of the move. at launch it would pull enemies to you and you could hit them with almost any attack in your arsenal. after a round of "balancing" patches that down special was nerfed SO hard that you can BARELY even land her back air (one of her fastest moves) after it, making the move practically useless. overbalance is real, and this game definitely suffered from it.

and this isn't even going into the fact that right before this game dropped they laid off our goat thaddeus from ludocity, in general this game isn't so geat. it's overbalanced, buggy, dead, and the companies surrounding it are seedy.

genuinely one of the best video games ever created. it's amazing that they managed to match Persona 3 in terms of quality of writing, characters, and music. the content they managed to pack into this expanded version of the PS2 original makes it a steal for the $19.99 pricetag and a must buy for any JRPG fans.

really good movement oriented metroidvania, they patched in a map so this game's one major flaw is now GONE

BUY IT!

wario land meets sonic, don't let this game being shoved into your face keep you from trying it out, it's very good.

I feel gross saying I don't recommend this game, because I feel like if I gave it more time I would grow to like it, but I just cannot bring myself to do it right now. full disclosure: I played 1 mission, but this game is one of those games you only need one mission to understand if you want to keep playing it or not.

TL;DR GAME HAS A LOT GOING FOR IT BUT IT'S ALSO SUPER AWKWARD AND JANKY AND POORLY DESIGNED IN A LOT OF AREAS. IF YOU WANNA TRY IT GET IT ON SALE. Keep reading for a more in-depth explanation of my feelings on this game

I think to start this off I'm gonna list off some pros, just to not make this too negative

+Pretty video game
+Pretty good combat for a first person shooter
+Has a parry mechanic
+Has a sword, swords are cool
+Cool arm gimmick

Now, as for the cons... I think it's better to explain them than put them in a list.

The first thing you notice when you start up (aside from unskippable cutscenes in an action game) is that there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of controls on the side of the screen. It shows controls for running, using your sword, using your launcher, using your force push, and using force pull. It shows you these AND gives you tutorials for them which is a lil annoying but I'd rather be forcefed information than never figure it out tbh. Another problem relating to controls is how they map certain moves. The force push and force pull are on the same button. For force push you press it, and for pull you hold it. That's not that bad, but it becomes a problem with the sword. The sword is bound to F by default, the launcher is on F as well, you simply hold it. A bit later however I wound up buying a move that was ALSO on F, and the way you activate it was by pressing F, releasing it, then pressing and holding it AGAIN for the attack to come out which is just awkward. I would often do a launcher on accident while trying to use it, or using it when I wanted my launcher. But on top of that, the GRAPPLING HOOK is on F as well! (It's contextual which is terrible and can lead to some confusing moments) It's very awkward and they should've been on different buttons.

The second thing you will instantly notice is forced on motion blur (disgusting) and the CONSTANT slowmotion. I love slowmotion, I play Bayonetta so slowmotion in action is kinda my jam, but the problem is that in Bayonetta the slowmotion occurs because you went out of your way to activate it, in this game it happens whenever the game wants. You can be having an amazing climactic fight and the game decides to slow the game down to a halt which destroys the flow of the fight and makes it last longer than it should. It would be fine if you can turn it off, but you can't, so the game's combat and gameplay will just randomly be slowed down because the game decided it wanted you to bask in its glory for a bit.

Honestly, after fighting the first boss, who was SUPER well designed, I really wanted to keep playing, but then I booted up mission 2 and the game took away all of my abilities, all of my weapons, and forced me into a stealth section in an action game not built around stealth and I decided I was done with the game for now, because doing something like that on MISSION 2 is a tone setter for how the rest of the game will be, in my opinion.

I feel like people would REALLY like this game, it does feel nice outside of some janky bits and with a patch or two to allow the turning off of the slow motion and fixing some of the weirder moments it could contend with Doom Eternal for best FPS action game. I'd say buy it on a sale and give it a try, it might be more up your alley than mine.

I see this as a public apology from Capcom to their fans for how horrible Resident Evil 3 Remake was. Not too much was removed, and everything that was left in was expanded upon by quite a lot. The game has a lot of content and extra things to do on top of the Mercenaries update on the way and the potential Separate Ways dlc. The remake may fumble in some areas, and could perhaps give you a BIT more ammo, but I genuinely think this is one of the best remakes of all time. Definitely recommended.

If you're considering buying this game because it is on sale, I would advise against it. The game simply will not run, it's a port SEGA refuses to fix. If you scroll through the discussions it's just a bunch of people talking about how the game just doesn't work with 0 workarounds.

just buy the game on console.

just a note: I tried everything to make it work and nothing worked.

very beautiful game, has helped me fight anxiety quite a bit along with its wii sequel. it's very cute, short and sweet, and very replayable.
