Hoo boy, this game is gonna be contentious

A fair amount of people are already expressing disappointment at the direction this title took for a story, and if they were expecting something personally moving like the first game then that feeling is justified. However, I don't think that this title was even *attempting* to replicate the story or "feel" of its predecessor. In the best way possible, this game feels like a dream. Like, a literal dream. Arguably a nightmare. It's not coherent, nor is it trying to be. You're not getting a saga, you're getting an experience—or rather, the concept of "experience" in its most raw, quintessential form

A visual novel for the illiterate

Against all odds, my favorite game of 2023 was a visual novel. An absurd amount of content, a great meta-analysis on storytelling itself, and a rock-solid tone throughout the entire experience. Highly recommended
