Early Access Review
I had high hopes for this game, unfortunately with the state of it so far (even taking into account it being early access), I just can not recommend it.

It does have that specific early 2000s racing game vibe to it, but there are so many small things already that resulted in me requesting a refund less than an hour later.

Performance is horrible. At times the performance was worse than Cyberpunk on release day. Albeit, I do play on Linux - so there could be some issues there due to proton.

Currently there is a limited amount of cars, and especially brands. I can understand there's a lot that goes into it with licensing, and brands not wanting to associate themselves with street racing anymore. But with the current small list of cars, it feels really lacking.

The customization in the game is decent, there's a lot of options it seems.
Controller support in menus feels really lacking. I kept just switching back to my mouse and keyboard when I had to do any form of menu navigation.

In general, navigating the different menus in the game feels really clunky. I have no idea if I am just blind, or if it's hidden somewhere odd, but I could not for the life of me find the button to quit the game anywhere. I ended up having to hit alt + f4.

The thing that bothered me the most though, was the lack of any sense of speed. You'll be going nearly 200 kph but it feels like you're doing 80, if even that.

All in all, I am going to keep an eye on the game and see how it develops, and even though I think the price is fair for what the game is, I still decided to refund the game due to it not living up to my expectations *yet*. I really hope the game improves, because it did invoke some of that nostalgia I had from racing games of the early 2000s.

Highly recommend this to everyone, especially portal fans!
It scratched the portal 2 itch I've had for a long time now and although short (around 6 hours for me) I greatly enjoyed it.
This game is a great example of how mods for games don't have to be lackluster, this honestly felt like a new portal game from valve. I loved some of the easter eggs I found and the puzzles were a nice level of difficulty where some were easy and some forced you to use your brain.

I hope to see more from Second Face Software in the future!

I loved the game before 2.0/Phantom Liberty and I love it even more now.
100% my favourite game in recent years. I highly recommend it to everyone, especially after the changes made with 2.0

Gameplay loop becomes boring really quick, as others have said it feels like you're just working on the same couple of bikes and there's a massive lack of information given to you, an example could be when a quest tells you to improve a bikes handling to 50+, but there is no way to know what handling level it currently has and so you just kinda have to try and figure it out.

Also this game makes my graphics card (2080 Ti) run hotter than Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K with raytracing enabled. The game actually makes my graphics card run so hot that the fans go on full blast.

Save your money and buy something else

In short:
The game is good if you find a good server. I only recommend buying the game when it's on sale though. At least for now.

Longer version:
I have played DayZ since the Arma 2 DayZ Mod, I loved it back then and I still love it to this day.
I do however have some things about the standalone version of the game that I are some decent cons for me, especially when you think about how the game has been in early access for just shy of a decade now.

The world is amazing and very detailed in terms of storytelling, especially some of the modded maps like Deerisle have an amazing story behind it, even though the map is still only in beta.

A struggle I see with some of my friends who play this game, as well as my self, is that we hardly ever want to play on a pvp focused server because most of the time it's just shoot on sight. And who really wants to lose things they probably spent ages looking for. I enjoy PvE servers, and although I haven't tried them I have a great feeling that roleplay servers are a perfect fit for a game like DayZ.

The struggle I have with the game is the dang desync lag. I know the game has had a tumultuous development cycle, but I just can't get over just how badly desync lag still is in this game. ESPECIALLY with vehicles. Not only that, but vehicles in DayZ also handle absoloutely terrible. I have played lots of Arma, both 2 and 3, and I just don't understand how they've managed to ♥♥♥♥ up vehicles as badly as they have. They work great when there isn't any lag, except for very poor handling and no real sense of speed. There is also a very limited amount of vehicles available in the game (without modding), sometimes vehicles are even completely undrivable if the server is experincing a lot of desync.

Although I have issues with some aspects of the game, I still greatly enjoy it and have some great memories from playing the game with friends. I hope many of the issues the game currently has are fixed in the (near) future. The game has a character creator, but it's not very in-depth at all, and I wish we had a few more options for faces.

I still recommend the game, but I only recommend purchasing it if it's on sale until the game is more feature rich, has better vehicle performance and less desync problems.
