I have played 5-6 hours of the game now and I can pretty much say what the game is in a sentence. Thrones of Britannia is better looking but massively simple and easy version of total war Attila.

Im gonna start with the bad.

Now dont get me wrong I didn't dislike the game, the game was enjoyable for the first 4 hours on hard. However the only reason it was enjoyable for that long was because the faction I chose had a difficult and very slow start. If I had played an easier to get going faction I could see this game getting old so quickly its not real. Let me explain.

Now lets be honest most people dont end up actually finishing a campaign on total war, they get to a point where the game becomes quite boring and they'll start a fresh on a different faction or the same with mods. It gets boring because at one point it becomes a steam roll, you get to a point where the player faction is that powerful that you are able to destroy the AI. The AI gets to a point even if its big where it cant face you and winning the campaign will purely become a matter of time.

In Attila this didn't happen so quickly compared to the other games because of how complex it was, you had to manage everything and public order was massive pain in the arse sometimes. You had to manage food, Income, sanitation, squalor, resources, trade, population, growth, religion and family. (theres probably more but I cant remember of the top of my head) You couldn't just expand without planning or without some idea of what you needed.

In thrones of Britannia its sad how easy it is. I was playing in hard and the only thing I really worried about was food, and by worried I mean not at all. It was more just a inconvenience that slowed me down and forced me to take more settlements.

from the ones above the only things in thrones are food, income, family. They are the only three things i cared about in thrones when it came to management of my kingdom. This and the fact that the minor settlements where specialised and the-for only had 1-2 building slots meant that once i got going I could defeat anyone at any time. The game became a walk over as soon as i got 1 20 stack and 1 10 stack.

With no garrisons on the minor settlements it was just piss easy to win the game. Id just take my 10 stack, take the enemy food supply while my 20 stack went for the province capital or main army. This would work and then i'd repeat. The more armies I got the easier it became and the more settlements i got the armies i got. It was cake walk at that point.

The amount this game has been dumbed down is crazy and it shows. Anyone who enjoys the difficulty of total war will get bored quickly in a campaign. I know 100% I will never play a full campaign on this game.

They got rid of the army talents. This means if your general dies everything your army has gone through wont matter. The only thing that will stay the same is the name and the xp level of the units. This is stupid as it takes so much attachment out of the game. I loved levelling up an army and protecting the troops within it. Just another thing they took out with no good game play reason.

Theres other little problems too but I dont really care about them. they dont really bother me too much.

On too the good.

I sort of like the recruitment system. Now I say sort of because waiting like 8 turns for units to be fully healed up is a bit much at the start of the campaign and just got me bored but later on when you have got some better building etc its a very good mechanic.

The factions, now I've only played one but im pretty sure they all sort have their own thing. Mine was an event system where I could send expeditions out sometimes that could bring back bonuses. so I raided the Frankish kingdom for example it got me some money. It was immersive I liked as it created a sort of story and got me into the time period. All the factions im pretty sure have different ones and that's a good feature.

The new talents system for characters is very good it gives proper customisation to the player and is probably the best version of this I have seen in total war.

The graphics are 100x better and it runs way better than Attila. The game just looks way less dull and makes the game feel much better.

Siege maps are really cool and interesting and a lot of work has been put into them.

Overall

Overall in my honest opinion the game is just gonna get boring so quickly I mean its so easy. Like you just dont have to worry about things. City management is just such major part of total war and its like its been almost deleted. Diplomacy is pointless, yay lets "declare frendship", I honestly dont know if that means non-aggression pact but that's how I used it. Trade agreements are....well I dont know, its there but somehow done automatically and I had a lot of resources but one of mine was only giving me 36 gold so im not sure.

Army upkeep is based basically only on food until your using top tier troops, which in turn makes making an army and managing money also really easy because the AI is ♥♥♥♥ and you dont need good troops to fight them so you can use troops with 50 gold upkeep which means you can field more armies as long as you have food.

Yeah tbh the game wasn't at all difficult it was just slow because building and making troops and movement range has just been made really slow. Now that I think about all the things that caused me problems in the campaign was just sort of how many turns do i have to wait for this.

So in my opinion if you like the difficulty and strategy of Attila your not gonna find thrones challenging at all, which for me, makes me want a refund.

EDIT: if you like a more basic game then this game is great I forgot to write this. It isnt good for people who like complexity but other yeah ok.
