After playing the demo I'm excited for the 2.0 release! A lot to love already, and definitely looking forward to more!

Will add further review after completing the game.

One of the best metroidvania games I've played in a while. The traversal abilities are unique and the game offers some of the very inventive puzzles. Worth the price for the gameplay alone, but the pixel art, mechanics, and fun music make it one of the best games I've played this year. Highly recommended!

A really great little game.

The game has a lot of soul, and the characters are great. It really walks the line between 90's horror game with modern characters perfectly. The mystery subplot is compelling and fascinating, almost even more so then the main character's, but the way the devs tie it all together is masterfully satisfying for everyone. The voice acting, the graphics, and especially the writing and puzzles make this the perfect game for a Halloween playthough.

My only issue with this game is the price point. $19.99 feels just a little too steep, but if you can get it on sale, jump on it!

A fantastic game! Solid controls, inventive mechanics, each level offers something new! There is so much in this game to break down and master and the time trials for each level are a great intensive for that, while the hidden coins encourage exploration.

The difficulty goes up quick, but the check points are forgiving. Very easy to learn, difficult to master. Very excited to see what the developer comes out with next!

I wanted to like this game. I really did. But it just completely fails to deliver on anything that might make it interesting. All you do is complete a simple series of events. There's no creativity to it, no through line, nothing interesting. There are a few, optional conditions you can do that are kind of interesting, less than a third of the "stories" have them. The game isn't challenging, it isn't creative, it isn't fun. The demo I played had a lot of promise, but the creator has gone on record saying that we the audience misunderstood what the game was going to be. He also said the game took 15 years to make. This is not worth 15 years of work, or $15. It could have been something interesting, but instead it's a bare bones attempt at what could have been a really cool game.

Do not buy this game.

Having now played both the Playstation 4 and Steam versions of this game, I can confirm that it is impossible to play thirty minutes of this game on either platform without encountering multiple game crashing bugs. During my time with the Playstation 4 version I was able to soft lock the game two different ways before reaching the fourth area. The first was when I picked up the collectible Gem right after leaving the room where you got your first memory before the babysitter began her dialogue, the gate read it as a sequence break and caused my character to freeze in place. I could pause the game, but that was it. After that I reloaded the game and found various progression essential NPC’s began disappearing from the world before I could interact with them. There were also numerous other smaller graphical and collision glitches, as well as a several spelling and grammatical errors, that showed the complete lack of polish and quality control found all throughout this game.

The Steam version is, if anything, worse. The frame rate stuttered its way to an average 15-20 frames a second on the opening cut scene, and the game would freeze and stutter dangerously ever time it tried to load assets for the next area. While I was able to get further in the game then I did on the PS4, this time instead of soft locking the game just crashed to my desktop while I was riding an elevator in the Crystal Caves shortly after getting the Rage mask about 25 minutes in this time. Again, there were numerous smaller glitches and problems found all throughout the game. I wanted to like this game, I really did. But it is far to flawed to recommend, and the fact that the creators wish to call this a “finished” version makes me unsure if I want to laugh or cry. This game should not be released in this unpolished and unplayable condition. Several changes and fixes have been implemented from the Playstation 4 version, but if you must play this game I would recommend waiting until October when the Xbox One version of the game is due to be released. Perhaps third time will be the charm, though giving this game’s current track record, I doubt it.

Early Access Review
An amazingly fun game.

-Beautiful graphics and lighting, A mysterious world that grabs your attention and makes you want to play further.

-A rapidly expanding number of upgrades and abilities that open new possibilities on the track.

-Evolving gameplay and track hazards that will have you literally going up the walls.

-Fast paced gameplay that keeps you immersed even when you fail.

This is a still evolving game that you won’t be able to put down.

Solid platforming, eye catching art, and a really interesting take on story telling. The only real problem is that the game is just too short. The multiple endings and leaderboards only tack on so much, and some extra game modes (like the ability to play as the princess or a level editor to create your own custom tower of death and doom) might have helped give it that extra pizzas, but $10 just feels too steep for the amount of content you’re getting, regardless of the fine quality. Still, if you can catch Freedom Fall for $5-$7 the price is just right.

In the spirit of the original Tell Tale games like Sam and Max, Deponia brings a great mix of adventure and comedy to the classic point and click genera. Puzzles are thought provoking yet solvable without the aid of a walkthrough. The art is cartoonish but pleasing to the eye, and the characters are lovable and fun. If you’re a fan of comedy and point and click adventure games then I cannot advise the Deponia trilogy enough.

Some of the most fun arcade style gameplay I've had since Castle Crashers. This game is fantastic and only getting better. Thousands of weapon combinations, a fun familiar art style, a wide variety of missions, and the chance to bring some friends along for the ride. This is a great game and a must have for any library.
