Early Access Review
It’s time to immerse yourself in a little peaceful world. Take a break from reality and create a charming little world.

This game is highly replayable as you never know what the tiles have in store for you and with the building being endless each session will last as long as you can keep completing those tasks.

You’ll easily find yourself losing track of time starting from a little session of 20mins or so can soon turn into a few hours as you get immersed in the game and challenge yourself to create the best little world around.

Have you ever wanted to shrink the moon or make a boat huge? It’s all in your control when playing Sizeable, the puzzling exploration game from Business Goose Studios.

If I had to sum up this game in three words, I'd probably say: relaxing, adorable and simple. Not simply in a bad way, but so simple that anyone could play it, enjoy it, and still be relaxed at the same time whether you like puzzle games or not. This is the kind of game that you could just pick up and explore, it doesn't matter how good you are at puzzles or how bad you are at them; you'll find enjoyment in this game. Be prepared though it’ll leave you wanting more.

My game of the week this week is Two Point Hospital.

This amusing business simulator offers a similar style to that of the gameplay in the 90s classic theme hospital in which players design and operate a privately owned hospital with the goal of curing fictitious conical illnesses.

Fun little fact for you the game was designed and developed by some of the original creators of theme hospital including Mark webley and gary carr who had both been over at lionhead studios playing key roles before leaving to form the new two points studios and getting a publishing deal with sega.

Two Points Hospital is in no way just a remastered edition with a different name, many of the game features have been improved and adapt based on current gameplay. There are also new elements such as the star ratings and hospital levels.

There is something for everyone in this game, whether your a fan of simulators and fancy a new one, just out for a good laugh or want to relive some of the amusing moments of the 90s hit this one is definitely for you.

My game of the week this week is TETRA’s Escape.

It’s a fun little platforming puzzle-game all about blocks!

Tetras are the name of the little blocks you control and with them you must craft your way to collect all the stars, trophies along the way and most importantly make it to the end and free those little guys!

You have some fun little abilities like shape-shifting so you can turn your Tetra into different Tetrominoes and use them to master the puzzles.

Don’t be deceived by the styling of the game, it’s tough and often you’ll find yourself restarting level after level until you get it right, because if your like me you’ll be aiming to get 3 stars and the trophy on every level!

If you like puzzles and don’t mind a little frustration along the way then this is definitely one for you, just make sure to think big because if you don’t you may never get all the Tetra’s back home!

I guess you can say I’m quite a fan of the work done by Tomorrow Corporation and it’s hard not to be after some really awesome Indie games (World of Goo & Little Inferno).

Following on from the beautiful art style of their previous games I was happy to see they’ve continued it. As well the graphically style they have also kept the fun little playful sound effects.

Gameplay

You use a series of commands to build a program which tells your worker what they have to do. It’s a very basic drag and drop system that lends itself nicely to new comers as you have to complete a serious of challenges to pass each area.

The game also introduces new elements for your programs as you progress, so where-as when you start out and you simplify have inbox and outbox, you soon unlock jump (which is a repeater), then later the ability to copy and paste to your boxes.

make sure to read everything in the note on the programming area, I know it may seem like common sense, but all the answers are hidden within it.

The levels gain in differently pretty quickly, but it’s all just logic and common sense, however when you start to get engrossed in it’s easy to forget and just jump straight into each puzzle.

I’m a big fan of logic and puzzles so it’s very refreshing to pick up an indie game which is all about that and to enjoy it so much. It really does have a nice balance of lovely artwork along with a great game.

It let’s you try countless times so you can get your head around the maniacs the game is trying to lend itself to.

Little Extras

You can use a slider to make your worker walk faster but I really enjoy the animation style of this game so tend not to use it.

You can also choice different paths along the way of your progression, it’s a sort of hard vs harder, but I’m always up for a challenge so I took them head on.

If the game hasn’t given you enough challenges at this stage then you’ll be happy to know that each level can be completed in numerous ways

You play as two brothers who have lost their mother and are on a quest to get the curse to save their father.

Graphics

Beautifully rendered this game is visually stunning! The game can be forgiven for some clunky motion animations because of it’s rich vibrant graphic style.

Gameplay

It takes a bit of getting used to controlling both brothers at once but it’s a nice dynamic. You must complete and solve some basic puzzles to get around and many of them rely on you to switch between characters as somethings are just too hard for the little brother to do.

It’s odd playing a game that doesn’t have any real narrative and it makes some things a bit more complex than they need to be but don’t let that put you off for one second!

As you progress the puzzles become more challenge and in some sections remind us of the great tomb raider puzzles but one thing is for sure, each one of them is fun to solve.

You’ll meet Weird and wonderful friends along the way as well as reunite families and take on bad guys! However, your journey will not prepare you for what is really in store.

“Her Story is the new game from Sam Barlow, creator of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Aisle. A woman is interviewed seven times by the police. Search the video database and explore hundreds of authentic clips to discover her story in this groundbreaking narrative game.”

Thrown straight in at the deep end the game wants you to learn yourself how to play and we kind of like that. Of course we didn’t at first check the Readme doc, i mean who does?

We are going to have to keep this one very short because it’ll be way to easy to give clues, hints and spoilers to the story if we don’t.

Gameplay
You are on the hunt through the L.O.G.I.C. database for answers and clues to her story, the story of the women in the videos and what has happened to bring her to the interviews.

Top Tip #1 - Pay close attention to not only what she is saying but everything you can see within each video clip.

Style
It’s styled to feel as if your looking at a PC monitor from the 90s with it’s Rounded Glare and all the UI within the game is feels like a classic OS.

Mini-Game
We took an early break from the main game when we discovered you can play Othello by checking the trash. It wasn’t for long though as we wanted to get right back into the story we were uncovering.

Top Tip #2 - Play in a windowed mode and open Notepad next to the game. Trust us you’ll need it whilst you listen to all the clues and try to understand who all the characters are. We had hundreds of words and phrases by the time we finished the game. It made it a lot easy and probably one of the reasons we solved the whole puzzle.

Actress
Brilliant performance from Viva Seifert, she really sells the persona in the videos and makes the unraveling of the story very engrossing. So much so we couldn’t stop playing till we discovered the true secrets hiding within the interview clips.

“Pimp up your mobility scooter and take on the Grim Reaper and his Zombie army in a race for your soul. Armed with a variety of homemade weapons and gadgets, battle your way through 13 unique & exhilarating tracks. Can you survive the retirement village?”

Gameplay

Hold onto your hat like Jeremiah and race around in this fun little indie game racer. With very basic controls similar to other cartoon racers it’s got a really good pick up and play aspect where you aren’t having to learn loads of stuff over before you can get going.

Use your walking stick to attack your rival racers

Story Mode
Each track has three races, which see you competition to be the top coffin dodger and take the gold! Keep on an eye on your position because at the end of each of the three races there are eliminations.

Top Tip 1
Keep an eye out for shortcuts, they aren’t the most obvious to see but if your almost at the finish and in 5th or 6th they sure do come in handy.

Although we didn’t do great on it our favourite track is Story Mode: The Graveyard, Race 3!

Top Tip 2
Don’t slow down, you can make about 95% of all the corners without taking your front off the gas

Power-Ups / Pick Ups
One feature that’s much loved of all cartoon racers is the items you can pick up along the way. It’s nice to see the consistence of the games theme being shown even in the fact this items are stored in old school travel cases. Beware next time you pass someone on a mobility scooter apparently they can be equipped with some rather powerful rockets, who would have know ?

Our favourite power-up is the defibrillator as it’s a radius attacker meaning if they are in front or behind as long as they are close they’ll stand no chance against you.

If your out in front also be aware that we couldn’t work out a way to fire the rockets behind at your rivals so you may have to slow and let them pass just so you can take the shot.

Sadly the power-ups aren’t stackable at first so if your hanging onto something useful you may want to use it early and pick up another. Although if that’s not your style then you can spend some of your hard earned corns in unlocking the number you can hold and the ability to lock and switch them.

Unlocks
We love a good unlock, it gives you something to aim for! In Coffin Dodgers you get to upgrade and personalise your mobility scooter* by spending the coins you’ve earned in previous races. Everything from engine to paint job is customisable so you can really go to town on the design of your mobility scooter as you avoid the looming threat of the grim ripper.

Top Tip 3
Don’t waste your money early on like we did on styling your mobility scooter make sure it’s upgrades are all dealt with first as the game requires this for you to progress at a good pace rather than multiple replays of the same tracks.

Other Modes
It’s not just racing on tracks and completing a story like game their are other modes available to play. The one’s you expect are included quick race, time trial and multiplayer but there is also a pretty fun one called Open World. Something we weren’t expecting to see in this game. Open World is as it sounds a large drivable town that you can do mini missions and challenges within, it makes for some quick fun when the story is getting too tough and you want a break.
