Honestly don't get all the fuss. Played April 2025, shared story with a friend, and it ran fine! Didn't run into issues like most of the reviews are saying - I'd even argue it was the LEAST buggy of the four games.

I found the setting and the characters really engaging, and whilst the actual story story might be a bit light, the gameplay story was great and surprisingly well-paced (although a couple of times scenes were cut short due to the other person progressing too soon, which was something that Man of Medan handled particularly well).

Hard disagree on most of the other reviews here, although technical issues will of course vary for everyone.

Fun, cute little stealth game with a lot of character delivered through the dialogue-less cutscenes. Reminiscent of playing the demo disk for Sly Cooper 2 on the PS2 back in the day, with similar degrees of avoiding enemies and jumping on top of bookshelves. Collectibles encourage exploration of the tightly designed levels, each of which offers a new challenge & environment keeping it fresh across the 3 levels (broken down into 5 parts) during the playthrough. Really enjoyed my time with this.

I'm going to start by saying this game is not for everyone, but for those it is for, it is great.

Kentucky Route Zero is a story-heavy point 'n' click game with minimum gameplay and maximum aesthetics. Rather than focus on puzzles, it focuses on exploration (of both environment and story), immersion and atmosphere, and uses these mechanics to create a brilliant game (I considered putting the word "game" in quotation marks, but no matter how you look at it it is still a game, that you play (and enjoy)).

It has an interesting take on the typical 'choice' system. Generally the choices you make in a game shape your future, but the choices you make in Kentucky Route Zero shape and explain your past, this works seamlessly while still involving the player.

I have seen a lot of complaints about the episodic release, but for some reason I wouldn't have it any other way with this game. The excitement I get from waiting for the next episode, any news filling me with joy, is all part of the experience. I almost feel like the game was designed for the player to have relatively long breaks between episodes, and the episodic release does allow them the opportunity to release neat little interludes (Which in and of themselves are pretty darn great (And free!)).

I also feel the need to throw in something about the soundtrack, but I got nothing other than: It's great. Good job, Ben Babbitt and the Bed Quilt Ramblers.

If you're still unsure, here are some other keywords that might convince you:
Dreamy
Mystery
Stylised
Unique
Surreal
Visually and sonically well-designed

Despite the script changes and bosses feeling easier than they were in the original game, it still has it's amazing gameplay, story, music and graphics. The new graphics and music are nothing to boast about, but you can choose to use the originals as well as a remix option.
The additional bonus content are fun and difficult challanges, that even add cannon additions to the story and new playable stages. Having achievements adds a lot to the game, as it gives you something to aim for after initially completing the game, and you have to play the main story at least 3 times (possibly more) to get the majority of them. At the time of this being written a couple of the achievements are broken. (And remain so, years later).
Another new addition is additional difficulties. Your choices are: Easy, Normal (supposedly the original) and Hard. Hard difficulty essentially forces the minimum health challenge on the player.

In short: It's as amazing as the original (Aside from the scripts changes and feeling easier), with additional content and drive for hours of play.

EDIT: The script can be replaced with the original script (a quick google search should show you how), which I highly recommend.
