By Fenteale
Read this to fix issues with the lock on missles never locking on, and the crosshair not showing exactly what you're shooting.

Downloading and Installing d3d fix.
This is a fanmade patch someone made that fixes a ton of the issues and also enables d3d rendering.

You can download it here[community.pcgamingwiki.com].

Once it's downloaded, extract the files to the slave zero installation directory (eg: SteamApps/common/Slave Zero) and replace anything that is conflicting.

Now to run the game, simply run "d3d_SlaveZero.exe" and the lock on and crosshair issues should be fixed.
Further Configuration
Getting the "play" button on steam to work right.
Now each time you want to play the game, you gotta go to the slave zero folder and click on the "d3d_SlaveZero.exe" file.

If you want to change it so that you can just run the game directly from steam, navigate to the Slave Zero folder again, rename "SlaveZero.exe" to "SlaveZero_old.exe" or something similar (just so long as you change the name). Then rename "d3d_SlaveZero.exe" to "SlaveZero.exe"

So now when you click the "play" button on steam, the correct version of the game should run.

Using DirectX Rendering (performance increase).

I have to say, even though the game runs way smoother after I do this, I can never to get it to look right. Regardless, i'll post how to set it up here, maybe you can get it looking good.

To enable DirectX (D3D) rendering instead of the 3dfx (glide) rendering, navigate to the Slave Zero directory, and open up "szOptions.ini" in notepad or a similar text editor. Scroll down to the section, and change "Display Mode Wanted" to equal "9" instead of "0".Save the file and launch the game. The game should then be running in d3d mode. If for whatever reason its not working, you can try setting "Display Mode Wanted" to "4" instead.
Additional Materials
Looking online, it seems someone made an injector that enables/fixes a ton of stuff in a couple older games, including Slave Zero. When I tried it for myself, it didn't seem to do much, but worth mentioning if you reading this, want to look more into it. A link to it can be found here[community.pcgamingwiki.com].

Thanks for reading! This is pretty much all the info I can find online about modding Slave Zero.
Please let me know if anything needs changing, or if you found any better fixes or something.
