Wargame lacks a proper tutorial. Here's a small checklist to accompany the first campaign, which is structured to be tutorial-like. When I refer to missions, I refer to missions from that campaign. All the units in that are NATO forces. Warsaw Pact troops play slightly differently, but the basics are the same. Note that this is less a walkthrough of the first campaign and more an attempt to explain what you should learn during it.

First mission
You start with 4 tanks. Blue troops are yours, green troops are your allies and red ones are enemy forces. You share LOS with allies but can't control them. The controls are basic: WASD moves map around, mousewheel zooms, leftclick selects and rightclick does. Ctrl+number hotkeys unit groups, Ctrl+unit selection selects all units of one type and Shift queues orders. The only exception is giving orders via right-hand buttons, which require you to left-click after pressing the button (or hotkey). F. ex. click Move Fast, then left-click somewhere to make units stick to roads. See manual p. 2 for more information if hotkeys give you problems.

Things you should pay attention to during the mission:

- how to use the basic UI, including split and regroup buttons
- hiding units in cover. When unit name tag blinks, it is hidden. Hiding yourself from enemy eyes is probably the most important individual thing for success in Wargame.
- difference in LOS without recon and with recon
- the difference between normal and road (fast) movement
- understanding how reinforcements are called into field
- using supply trucks to repair and rearm your units
- using FOBs to fill up your supply trucks
Second mission
You start away from the friendly units and must do some travel movement to get there. Fast action is important.

Things you should pay attention to during the mission:

- capturing and holding zones with CV
- resource system; holding a zone gives you the number value of points every 4 seconds
- understanding the basic strengths and weaknesses of infantry and tanks
- difference in AP and HE damage. AP damage increases the closer you move unless weapon is listed as HEAT (infantry RPGs and LAWs): HE stays the same regardless of range.
- directional armor: getting hit in the sides is much more lethal than getting hit head on.
Third mission
Three objectives, one tight time limit. The enemy plays a little more actively during this one, so you may need to defend a little.

Things you should pay attention to during the mission:

- helicopter movement and landing. You can force helos to stay airborne by parking them over forests or houses. Note that helicopters can't fast move and don't receive any cover bonuses while airborne.
- splitting attention via minimap
- Surface-to-air missiles or SAMs
- Anti-tank guided missiles or ATGMs. Missiles play by their own rules. They can't be fired if the shooter is moving. The missile will always miss if shooter moves or dies during missiles flight (including if you move the unit yourself!) and have an increased chance of missing if they take damage during missile flight. Missiles are always HEAT damage type.
Fourth mission
On the offensive again, with several objectives and tightly entrenched enemy. By now the game takes off silk gloves and starts to punish you severely for mistakes.

Things you should pay attention to during the mission:

- artillery! You need to have and retain LOS on target area for shots to be corrected. Keep an eye on supply use. Understanding how artillery works is essential.
- helicopter gunships and how they work against various targets on the ground

This is the first mission where you must take a moment to deploy your units before attacking a position. Try various ideas to capture the towns and pay attention to how well (or not) they work.
Fifth mission
Deploy your units and launch the game. You can delete units during deployment with a right-click if you change your mind. Holding shift while deploying units retains the unit selection, allowing you to quickly deploy groups of units.

No new systems enter play anymore. However, the enemy will use all of them in combined arms assaults against your positions. Good luck!

If you make it this far you know all the basics needed for multiplayer. Before joining multi remember to go over your deck and activate it. You may also want to give the first Soviet scenario a try, just to see how their toys play compared to NATO ones.

See you on the battlefield!

Fifth mission I found a LOT easier by looping to the West early on with a sizeable force, knocking out Command vehicles. That reduces enemy reinforcements significantly.

As I am something of a game tourist, this seems to be a game with a relatively flat learning curve. Without some kind of tutorial, this is a game I would find disappointing.
