Introduction
Rafting is a mini-game in Cor of which players can form a party, and ride down a river, shooting and slaying hobgoblins for stars, of which is then traded in for rewards.

It doesn't have a lot of requirements to start from, but it does require certain high ranked skills if you want to beat it efficiently for the best outcome.

You start by finding the port of which a NPC will lend you a raft, east of La Terra Highlands.
Gameplay
Generally, you must ride the raft down the river and attain stars from slaying hobgoblins.
1 Hobgoblin = 1 small star

Your party can be up to 8 players, but the stars earn will be divided by each number of players. The good thing is that once stars are earned and taken into the inventory, you can store them for 3 real days and spend it in at the port NPCs later on.

You cannot use close combat as means to kill them, simply because they are mostly on shore, until they land on your boat.

So to effectively get stars, you must use ranged or magic skills to hit or kill them outright, and as fast as possible as your raft does not stop moving.

As a suggestion, for the sake of travelling down the river, you do not need to touch the oars to steer the raft at all, unless you want to avoid parking it at each port that it floats near down the river.

Recommended Ranged Skills:
- Human / Elf Ranged Attacks
- Arrow Revolver
- Crash Shot
- Magnum Shot

Recommended Magic Skills:
- Bolt magic (chaincast wand is handy)
- Thunder
- Ice Spear
- Hailstorm

If you use either Ranged or Magic, be prepared with stamina or mana potion since one rafting session lasts up to 15 minutes.

If you decide to go to the waterfalls or head to the hobgoblin camp for some reason, then you can steer in that direction to the port, or to the waterfalls and trigger a cutscene.

My personal strategy is using high ranked Thunder[wiki.mabinogiworld.com] to charge once and release on hobgoblins as fast as possible, seeing how it has the longest and fastest range out of all the other intermediate magic. With a nice mana reducing wand, equipments, and skills, you can migitate the damage loss and save lots of mp for further casting, and killing most hobgoblins in one thunderbolt.

My character's skills are highly ranked though so I don't suggest many players try to solo it until they can do 100~250 damage average to hobgoblins very rapidly.

My elf has a rank 1 Ice Spear, which works if it weren't for latency and the dangers of being too close to hobgoblin archers and mages. But as a elf, my ranged skills are on the high end so I can kill them that way too, except these days, elf range lag throws a wrench on high speed, long range shots... It still works, just gotta take your time with each shots.

Additional Notes
Rafting is a very good way to gain exploration exp, and maybe gold if you are skilled and don't mind the 15 minute repetitive rides.
Each hobgoblin gives exploration exp when killed, and you can trade stars for a elephant statue which can be traded in to the artifact appraiser in Cor, to gain a good amount of exploration exp.

You can gain a good sum of gold by saving up lots of stars, and then redeeming the 11 star fox boots that can be resold back to the npc for 4000 gold.

One run with my thunder and I can net over 95 stars, meaning I can make potentially up to 36000 gold per trip, but this is if you can get 100 small stars, or in this case, 20 big stars (worth 5 small ones).

Yeah this article is old but still has some useful info.

I used to think 27 big stars was the highest you could get, and then I got effective range reforge on my bow and bumped it up to 28-29... I used to think that was the high end, close to the limit because I was even killing the mobs that were respawning. I was wrong. I just did a run and got 34.2 stars. An elf using Crash Shot + Mirage Missile with an effective range reforge and vision of ladeca active is by far the most effective method to do rafting.

It was awesome before the annoying 10 second cooldown nerf on it.

R1 crash shot is also useful in rafting. I use it exclusively and nearly always recieve over 100 stars.

I wouldn't really depend on 'Ice Spear'... The range of it isn't all impressive. So you would have to be quick and close to the edge to be able to target the "hobo's".

And rank 9 'Thunder' is all you kind of need, due to the hobgoblins not having much HP. One strike of thunder should be able to knock them out.

Personally, I prefer hunting Wyverns in Zardine to Rafting when playing solo for explore xp.

Rafting works better in a party though. Often I'll do it with two friends where one of us Thunders, another has a bow and the third is on the rudder steering back and forth to make sure we are in range of as many groups as possible for as long as possible to rack up as many stars as we can.

Well I didn't know about hailstorm in general because I'm still on the Ice Travel quest and have yet to have any luck getting a snow crystal and a giant character to help my elf get hailstorm.
But generally hailstorm is supposedly having a decent range and charge up speed.

Considering that charging up will do a AoE as well, but I do realize there is a cooldown with the skill that makes it unbearable for a long term minigame... lol.

LOL HAILSTORM IN RAFTING. Last time I did that, I got such a low amount of stars.
