Being smart and not falling onto the Bitcoin Miner scam
By FULLFRANIUM puntero
There's a new scam method out there regarding the game "Bitcoin Miner". The game itself can clone exact replicas of TF2, CS:GO and many other famous games' in-game items.
This method is now being used to scam lots of traders. Some have fell for it and lost thousands. I don't blame them, these replicas are LITERALLY INDISTINGUISHABLE.

The Scam Itself
People are reporting that this scam method has been patched/fixed. I'll leave the guide here just in case but it should be patched as of now. Safe tradin'!

Let me start out with a question; does this look like a legit gold pan to you?

You'd most likely think it is at simple glance, however this little fella is actually from a game called Bitcoin Miner. They'd most probably already deleted the game off the market due to the problems it has caused on different trading communities.

I've been retired of trading for 4 years now and this actually took me by suprise. Like how is it possible?
How to avoid it
It's a quite simple method but I'll explain it in-depth for those that don't quite understand intermediate Internet browser usage.

Let's say we got a trade offer from the man himself... Lil Pump.

Alright, we got Lil Pump sending us a trade offer for our beloved Strange Rocket Launcher. How delightful for him to pay us much, much more for it! He really has lots of money... His profile's private! Maybe that's because lots of people follow him around... Pan looks very legit though! Let's do it!

HOL' UP! That's where I stop you. What if I told you, right at the moment you were going to click that sexy ass Confirm Trade button, Jesus comes down from the skies and he tells you everythin' you need to know about what you're 'bout to do?

Damn... Close call! You almost got scammed for 15 ref. But you could've also been scammed for 130 keys

To avoid this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass scam you'll need 3 things:
  • An Internet browser that can actually Inspect Element.
  • Common sense.
  • More common sense.
Now that you have all those things, let's begin!

First you want to right-click the item the other person is offering to you. A menu will pop-up showing you lots of options, you want to click the one that says Inspect Element.

After that a sexy menu will open next to you, under you, above you or wherever it may appear. Make sure you're on the tab called Elements. This is where all the HTML code of the page is gathered whenever the page fully loads.

Now what the ♥♥♥♥ do I do with all this text that's shown up on my screen? Most likely the image of the traded item will be shown inside the Element viewer. If it didn't click on this icon and select the item yourself on the page.

You'll want to look for the element div that has a tag named class with the value trade-item.

Now inside that element take a look at the data-economy-item tag. It has a few very important values in it.

The first circled value is the Game ID from which this item's from. In this case it's 810270. That ID is from the game Bitcoin Miner. Oh noes! That means that In-Game item is actually from Bitcoin Miner rather than TF2. But how could you distinguish that pan? If you check at the first picture that pan looked very legit to me.

If the item is an actually legit TF2 item, the Game ID for the item would be 440. Remember that number like it's your last will cuz it'll save you a lot...

That's what I mean when I say that this scam is very easy to fall for. Even for experienced traders this scam is pretty tricky and not many traders check an items' game ID.

This would be the method to check for an items' authenticity IF the trader's profile is private. Otherwise just go to his inventory and check if the item he's giving you is on the correct game (TF2 in this case) and that would be the end of it.
That's it!
That's all there is to it. Make sure that the Game ID is actually 440 if you're trading for TF2.

See y'all!

Valve has already put a warning up if you're getting something from a game you've never played.
