If you've been playing Gungeon for a while, you'll know by now that there are some secrets in the game. This guide will help you find the basic secrets.
(don't forget to like this guide as it is my first one, and you're support is very helpful!)

Alright, so first off, you need to know the place to look for these secret rooms. Well, you can find them most commonly in chest rooms.
Now, go into a chest room and you'll see the chest in the middle, and around the chest, (typically) 3 blank walls. Now, before you go wasting your blanks trying to find a secret, the better way to do this WITHOUT wasting your blanks is to shoot the blank walls with a weapon of some sort. This weapon CANNOT be your starting weapon or a weapon with infinite ammo. It must be a gun with an ammo limit. Shoot the blank walls once (or twice) with a limited ammo gun, preferably a weapon that you don't really use, (such as the Unfinished Gun or something like that.) If a crack opens on one of the blank walls, then use a blank and there ya go! Secret rooms typically contain chests and pickups, such as hearts and armor or ammo.
Also, there is an item that is really helpful when trying to find secrets. It is called the Brick of Cash. When this item is equipped, if there is a secret room nearby, a small, living brick will gesture towards the wall that conceals the secret room. Note that this item is an A grade item, so it will be harder to find...

Also, there is a synergy you can get if you have both the Trick Gun, and the Huntsman. it's called Insight, and it will make a strange being appear attached to a wall. If you see this creature attached to a wall, that signifies that there is a secret room there.
Also, if you have the Lil Bomber weapon, you can reveal secret rooms as it has a blank effect when it explodes.

Anyway, I hope this guide helped you out! Thanks for taking the time to read this guide, and with that, I'll see ya later!

I seem to recall someone saying that floor debris/decorations don't spawn in front of secret room entrances. I haven't been paying attention enough recently to confirm if this is true for floor objects. At the very least there is a relationship between wall style and secret rooms. Only certain default tiles can display the cracks, so you can rule out any walls with special decorations.

Kyle's a mad lad for sure. All the custom made expansions and other things that have sprung up out of his work is crazy! Thanks for trying to keep me informed dude, and I hope you liked the guide!

Okay I know this is old and unrelated but if you didn’t know the madman Kyle made a level maker for gungeon. It’s on modworkshop. Nevernameds video explains how to use the tool to its full extent and how to test rooms. I saw a thread of you asking if it existed from 2019. Also made by madman Kyle is a custom character maker and loader. Hope I could help even if I’m 2 years late!

certain floors have different spawning mechanisms for secrets. for example the oubliette never has a secret room adjacent to the shop or chest room, just usually a random normal room

With 'bloodied scarf' you can try teleport right outside the walls, if there is a secret room there you get inside. Also, secret rooms tend to pawn next to chest rooms, the shop, e.t.c. and diametrically opposite to the elevator room (not the one in the boss room).
