Advanced Tweaks for Superfrog HD
By Devlin
Sick of the camera zooming around all over the place and making you dizzy? Or maybe the intro takes too long and you just want to play? In this guide, I provide Advanced tips and instructions to solve some of your woes :)

Settings.xml and You
Before I explain anything, I want to say a couple things first, typical disclaimer stuff..
I can't be held responsible if you knacker your game and have to reinstall it.
I can't be held responsible if you break your system somehow.
Ok now that's done, time for the fun part :)

Superfrog HD has lots of "hidden" options to tweak the game settings, that are NOT included in the ingame options!

And it's all achieved by editing a file called Settings.xml which is hidden away in your superfrog install folder in an archive called Assets.zip

Extract it however you like, and open it up in a decent text editor (like Geany, google it)

And you have a wealth of tweakable options! Most of which are actually commented on in the file itself :) There's ways to cheat also, but I'm going to let you figure out those yourself :)

To turn off the intro and splash screens, edit these lines:
<DisplaySplash value="1"/>
<DisplayGameIntro value="1"/>
<DisplayWorldIntro value="1"/>

DisplaySplash is for the Team17/Tick Tock splash screens, DisplayGameIntro is for the story intro screens and DisplayWorldIntro is for the in-game intro screens for each of the 6 worlds.

To force the camera to behave and lock itself to Superfrog (so he stays in the centre of the screen all the time) find and change the below line from value="1" to value="0"
<CameraHeroDecoupled value="1"/> <!-- Decouple hero from the camera, 1 = yes, 0 = no meaning the hero is locked to the centre of screen -->

When you're done making all your changes, save them and copy Settings.xml back into the ZIP file.

If you changed the Intro/Splash variables your changes will be immediately apparent. Enjoy your slightly-improved and far less dizzying game!

Thank you for your answer. I have tried all I could to activate them both on STEAM and GOG versions. I just wanted to try them on Settings.xml file for fun since I have just learned that file. No cheats needed.

I don't think the cheats are enabled in the version provided on steam.
I would look for another means to get access to cheats (cheat engine/trainers et al)

I'm aware that I'm posting a 9 year old guide post, but I hope you can remember and help me out. I love Superfrog alot and I play it again and again from time to time. I have done the adjustments told in this guide and I'm very happy with them.

I also found some cheats in the Settings.xml, I thought I have activated them by changing their values from 0 to 1, however none works. Is there another step that I need to do? Maybe do I need to enable cheats by pressing a key? Or should I modify something else too?

Any options that would allow me to play it on a 21:9 aspect ratio? Preferably 3440 x 1440.

Thank you very much for this guide. The game is very playable with the camera tweak and the removal of the story intro and splash screens makes this game much better. Thanks again, this works great!

I think it was designed around the floaty controls but definitely not for a tablet, some of the later levels require some near pixel perfect jumping and wings action

Yeah, the camera movements and level design seem to be centered around floaty controls. Almost as if this were originally meant to be be released on a tablet or handheld.

I noticed that too when I was first making the edits - If you set them to the amiga values the levels become impossible due to changes in jump height and player speed, so be careful with them.

The SettingsHero.xml file has options for how Superfrog handles. There's even a "reference value" (shown as Amiga [#]) for what approximates to the original game's handling. Edit this file according to those reference values for somewhat tighter controls. I haven't figured out how to reduce the delay for throwing Spud.
