See above the "Ultimate Ancilliary Guide" by Cpecific, credit where credit is due he put a lot more effort into his guide than I have into this one. I haven't reviewed his in its entirety, there may still be useful tidbits in this guide so I won't take this guide down, but definitely check out Cpecific's guide and upvote his work.

Work In Progress
RESEARCH
+10% Research Follower if you fight a battle while not having any research active
If you are not researching anything, winning battles can reward you with a Follower that gives +10% to Research Rate. So get in the habit of ceasing all research at the start of your turn, fighting all the battles and performing all the actions you need to do in your turn, hopefully gaining a bunch of +Research % Followers (do not forget to assign them to your Lords & Heroes), then Resuming research before you End Turn.

MESSENGER

Someone commented that not having any followers on a Lord or Hero increased the chance of getting the "Messenger" Follower? Need confirmation of this.

Tehenhauin can get some insane banners

"Whenever you need to reach a sacrifice threshold, spam that Sacrifice of Quetza! There are two particulary broken banners you can get:

Exalted Banner of Xapati: +20 AP damage, +20% Weapon strength

put this on any elite cav or infantry unit and basically double their damage output! Turns Saurus into absolute meatgrinders with more than 100 Weapon strength.

aaand Totem Pole of Destiny: +10 Leadership, +25%(!!!) Wardsave

Put this on anything that you hold dear and cherish, and it will live to see the end of the battle. I saw some people complain that Tehenhauin is squishy, well put this on him and worry no more!"

"The priestess of Isha/priest of Vaul are two very powerful ancillaries for the High elves. Their effects are reduced campaigning movement range by 10% and immunity to all attrition. They seemed though, hard to get. I used to get them either as a reward after a battle or treasure hunt or through one of the dilemmas the Helves get.

But in my last campaign, in Vortex I parked an army in Gaean Vale in Avelorn to help defend the city and after a few turns the ancillary just dropped alongside all the other usual ancillaries without even fighting a battle. Not only that, it dropped for the lord and for the heroes in his army. I saw it happen a couple of times so I tested it on Vaul's Anvil and the same happened. I'm running a Mortal Empires campaign and I got it too. I've still not tested if it's related to any building or if it would happen to heroes out of an army, but I thought I'd share as it is a very nice ancilliary to get."

"I've noticed that the wyrmhunter (?) follower that gives +1 rank to beasts for Dark Elves is awarded for recruiting beasts. Therefore, I spend a couple turns recruiting harpies, gaining the follower, then recruiting my more costly/important beasts. Would need to do more testing to figure out how many units / for how many turns are required though"

"Skeletal Labourer(25% reduction to Settlement building cost) from what I can tell is from Sacking a Settlement only.

Charnel Valley Necrotect I'm hazy on, I think it can drop while sacking or fighting with a Necrotect in the army but I'm not 100 percent sure, It's far more rare than the Labourer however."

Reddit user Actual_Justice agrees with the above, thinks sacking settlements as Tomb Kings may grant the Charnel Valley Necrotect

UPDATE TO ABOVE INFO: See the TK specific section below, the above redditors were sort of correct because sacking settlements in mountain regions would level up a lord with a chance to drop the Charnel Valley Necrotect. The TK section below will explain how to better farm this follower.

Reddit user gray007nl:
"Most of the public order related followers show up more if you have characters in a region with low public order."

This is too of traits for Lords & Heroes as well, station a character in a region for a bit and watch what happens.

Reddit user femstora:
"Banners that increases assassination chance can be gotten by moving heroes in and out of armies each turn. I'm not sure about the specifics but doing this seems to get you one about every 5 turns.

Also doing general hero actions gets you followers.

This is anecdotal but in empire having lots of wizards active at the same time seems to increase the rate of apprentices and hedge wizards."

NOTE RELATED TO FIRST LINE - Not just banners (he may have meant followers), followers and traits can be gained from moving characters in and out of armies; in my Ikit Claw campaign many of my Assassins got a +% assassination trait simply due to being moved into an army (or maybe that was a follower, and the trait was from multiple assassination successes, I'll have to go check)

Tomb King specific
Review sergiomorozov's phenomenal guide here:

I won't copy & paste his excellent work, just quote him to emphasize a few key points:

"To get the follower a Tomb King culture character must not have that type of follower equipped (for other cultures it may be possible to get some already equipped followers) AND must complete [the required action]

Then, there will be a chance the character gets the follower in question [see his guide for % chance].

There are other ways:
stealing the follower from a defeated enemy
getting the follower from searching ruins

Some followers can only be earned by a lord, or only by an agent, but they can be used by anyone after that (Other races may have restrictions on follower usage by lords/agents/agent types.)"

With this info:
To get "Skeletal Labourer" or "Acolyte of Sokh", you sack settlements, and have a 25% chance to get him.
To get "Charnel Valley Necrotect", you must level up in a Mountain Region [both Lords and Heroes can do this], 35% chance.

So to farm these bad boys, you would send your lords and heroes to a mountainous region, have your heroes perform actions against a settlement, then sack the settlement with your lords. If you obtain the desired follower, remove the follower from your lord or hero, and then repeat the hero actions and sacking, until you have enough of the followers to equip as many lords and heroes as you are likely to recruit, say 10 lords and 10 of each type of hero, so 40 should be plenty.

Other excellent followers:
For "Tombfleet Taskmaster", Post - Battle: Release (Ransom) Captives, 5% chance.
For "Priest of Ptra", Level Up in a region owned by Vampire Counts culture group faction, 15% chance.

Very hard to read, stop crediting people and just steal the info to write an actual guide.
