Where are my Workshop downloads?
By Goose
If you've had any sort of experience like mine with NWN EE and Workshop, then you may have encountered a weird little thing where you'll download the files of your choice only to find that they werent applied in-game. These sorts of things include:

-Downloading modules that don't even show up as available ingame
-Downloading overrides that arent applied
-etc

At some point, Steam, NWN, or Workshop got very confused and, instead of downloading to the game's directory, instead downloaded them elsewhere in the Steam directory. So if you're wondering where your file downloads went, that's where.

To fix this, go to the Steam directory and search for the "Steamapps" folder. From there, go to the Workshop folder, then to the Content folder. Your NWN workshop files should be in there.

TL;DR - steamapps > workshop > content > whatever file you were looking for

After you find your desired file(s), you will need to copy/paste all of the download files into the respective files in the NWN directory > data (so your .hak files will have to go in the hk folder, your .tlk files will have to go into the tlk folder, etc.). The game should apply the necessary changes to the game and whatever content you downloaded should be playable afterword.

Hope that helps, if anyone else has scoured Google in search of answers with no luck.

I'm not claiming to be some sort of computer or NWN file expert, I'm just speaking on what I know for sure has worked for me and apparently seems to have worked for others here

And yes, it would be nice if Beamdog would actually work something in that would make Workshop downloads actually go to the proper directories. I'm assuming either them or WotC isnt willing to dedicate funding toward something that has a workaround that's worked for 20 or so years though

helpfull post for many im sure,, however,, it doesnt seem it would be so difficult to add a script, or pointer, in to the enhanced version, so that it reads the modules from the orginal locaion as well as steam location/s ... i suppose, if i actually decide i care enough, i could make the script and test it and post instructions on where to copy and paste it in.. i seriouslty doubt ill ever get around to that tho,, theres a team that gets paid for that should have already done it before they released it on steam and opened the workshop for it,,,, just sayin

I cant believe anyone would run anything that containted obscure file types that arent able to be determined what are. ESPECIALLY that dont already pre exist in a programs file folders. That has to be the BIGGEST red flag in the computer world.

"oh, uh,, those file types, the obscure ones that dont pre exist anywhere in the games files, dont worry about those file types, those are good anywhere. These file types, these here, these are the ones you want to make sure are in the right place,, " what the hell?! LMAO

Thanks for putting this together! What happens when you need to uninstall a mod? Do you need to remove all of the files from the individual NWN directories?

If it's something like .tga files, those will go into a folder like portraits. Although sometimes there are files that seem just odd, and those will either require a trip to the Neverwinter Vault, a look at the ReadMe, or you can just leave them alone. The most essential things to get something like a module running are the files like the tlk, hak, etc files

Where do the files go that don't have a respective file just for that type?

Thanks for posting this! t's a nice reminder on where to find my .haks at when I download them from here. A shame we have to fiddle around with our folders like this, but it's no big deal — ctrl+c and ctrl+v ain't too hard to do.
