An introduction to Save Scumming
If you're new to the RPG genre/video-games you're probably not very familiar with the term "Save Scumming".

Here's a quick definition:
"In video games: Manually saving your game over and over again (usually before important decisions/boss battles, etc.) to make sure that if you screw up later on, you can always just return to your most recent saved game.

Used in games that allow players to save whenever they want, thus making the game substantially easier because there's no real penalty for messing up, and it lets the player know what to expect ahead." -Urban Dictionary

Save Scumming in Disco Elysium
Now that you're familiar with Save Scumming lets get to applying it in Disco Elysium.

First off, you want to save before any action ie.talk to a NPC. If you can, after exausting the dialogue options that don't need rolls, exit dialogue, save and try out the roll option (white or red check).

After saving, you want to keep in mind that you're now (somewhat) in control of your own destiny. If the roll fails you can reload your previous save and retry the roll as many times as you want.

Now, don't worry if you fail over and over even after trying 15 or even 20 times. Remember that if you're going for a 3% odd this is a 1 in 36 chance to roll Midnight (double sixes) which is successfull everytime.
Dealing with No Jive (6-5) dice rolls
So here we are, playing a game of chance and you just keep on losing it...

I recommend you watch some entertaining Youtube videos or listen to some music (after muting the game) while you're in the vicious reload cycle trying to get that sweet 3% interaction to work. Just keep in mind that the game doesn't hate you and it doesn't have any personal vendetta against you. You'll eventually get the Midnight (6-6) roll. Afterall, 3% is not 0%.

Anyway, here's some common coping mechanisms that might help you out:
  • Breathe
  • Write Down Your Feelings
  • Call a Friend
  • Go for a Walk
  • Count to Ten Slowly
  • Drink some Water
After trying over and over again, you'll get that sweet Midnight roll and you can go on your merry way Champ! (make sure you save the game before trying another chance roll even if it's a 70% one I've failed these and have had to reload and win the 3% odd again).
Useful Tips
  • Press F5 to Quicksave
  • Press F9 to Quickload
  • Instead of clicking the dialogue options you can press their corresponding number on your keyboard

Handy guide for those who aren't too familiar with rpg's. I don't have anything against save scumming (I frequently suffer "crashes" in a few grand strategy games) but it is worth noting that Disco Elysium is very much a game which rewards failure, so unless you're trying to do something very specific, embrace bad rolls and let the story take its course.

a good guide to destroy the whole essence of the game and make stats mechanics meaningless:amphibianhat:

This is a great guide, but I also wanted to add some more coping mechanisms for when things get a little too heated:

- Look at porn
- Try heroin
- Prank call your neighbor and tell him the devil is coming for him
- Take a poo break
- Ponder over how it's almost over (life)
- Practice your obama and trump impersonations
- Get a handgun and shoot your bedroom walls
- Order a pizza
- Order a hooker

I hope all these help!
