How to enable retro mode
To enable retromode, do the following at the main menu:

Go to settings
Change your resolution to 640x480
go to remap keys
(a new icon on the bottom right of Vella and Shay should exist)
click on the new icon and map F1 to it.
Done.

When playing the game press F1 to enable or disable the retro / 8-bit mode

Thanks, I had somehow gotten stuck in retro mode without following any of those steps.

Tralan, that doesn't make any sense at all.
This is obviously just a simple fragment shader applied after rendering the scene normally.
It shouldn't make any noticeable performance difference.

Feel free to turn your resolution right back up after, the key binding will stick and the mode will still work
