How to change the opening video to whatever you want
By Jake
Lots of folks prefer the original opening to STORM 4 as opposed to the Road to Boruto one. In my efforts to restore the old opening, I learned that I could change it to anything I wanted. So here's a guide on how to do it for yourself!

Video guide

This video fully shows the method described in this guide and contains all the download links. I can't put download links in the Steam guide so head to the video and get them from the description. Sorry!
What you'll need
NOTE: Steam doesn't allow links to downloads within guides.
However, all downloads can be found in the description for the video above.

In order to change the opening to whatever you want, you will need the following:

  • The video you wish to use as the opening
  • Prism File Video Converter
  • Audacity
  • VLC Media Player
  • Scaleform Video Encoder 4.0
  • CriPakTools
  • Repacker CPK
How to do it
1. Convert our video

In order to play our video ingame, it needs to be converted to a format the game will read, the .usm format. However, the tool used to create these won't just accept any kind of video, so we need to do some pre-converting.

First, boot up Prism File Video Converter, and drag your video file into the program. Set the Output Format to .avi and set the save file to your desktop. Hit convert and wait for the program to convert the video. It'll make a noise when completed.

Upon completion, we will now have another copy of our video in .avi format on the desktop. We no longer need the original, so get rid of it.

Now, we need to strip the audio from this video. In order to do this, open up VLC Media Player, and go to "File -> Convert/Save". Either drag&drop your video into the box or click the "+add" button and select your video. Remember, we're using the new .avi video we made, not the old one we started with. Hit convert/save at the bottom.

On the next screen, under the "settings" part, change the profile to "Audio - MP3". Set the destination to your desktop, and hit Start. This should only take a few seconds to create an .mp3 file on your desktop.

Unfortunately we also need to convert this audio file to a specific format in order to work. So, open up Audacity. Drag and drop your new .mp3 file into the program. Once it's opened up, simply go straight to "File -> Export -> Export as WAV" and save it to your desktop. Don't change any settings just hit OK and you'll end up with a .wav file on your desktop. You no longer need the .mp3 file so get rid of it.

-

We now have the necessary pieces to create our opening; the audio and the video in a format that our next tool can use. Open up ScaleForm VideoEncoder and do the following:
- At the top left, go to "Input Name", click the 3 dots and select our .avi file.
- Below it, in "Other Audio", click the 3 dots and select our .wav file.
- Hit "Encode".

Once this is finished, you will be left with two files, a .bat file and a .usm file. Delete the .bat file, we don't need it. the .usm file is the one we want. You can get rid of the .avi and .wav files now, and close any programs we opened earlier as we don't need them anymore.

2. Opening the game files

So, we have our opening, all set to go. We now need to get it into the game.

First, you need to go to your game's install directory. By default, this is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\NARUTO SHIPPUDEN Ultimate Ninja STORM 4".
If you can't find it, just go to STORM 4 in your library, Right-click on it and choose "Properties". In the Local Files tab, click "Browse" and this'll open up your install directory.

Now that we're here, go to Data -> Patch -> 12. There will be three .cpk files here, "data", "launch" and "sound". We're going to be taking sound.cpk, so MAKE A COPY OF THIS FILE, NAME IT "BACKUP.cpk". Open up the "CriPakTools" folder we downloaded earlier and copy our sound.cpk into it.

Next, we're going to click and drag our "sound.cpk" file onto the "1-EXTRACT_ALL(no_decompression).bat" file. Upon doing this, a small black box will pop up, don't touch it, let it do its thing. It'll close itself, and we'll now have a new data folder that contains all the files that were once in "sound.cpk".
Create a new folder on the desktop (it must be on the desktop) and name it root. Drag our new Data folder into this root folder.

3. Inserting our file into the game

So, we now have a folder on the desktop called root, and inside it is the data folder we made a minute ago. Open this data folder, and create a new folder and name it "movie". There should now be 2 folders in here; sound, and movie.

Move the .usm file we made earlier into this movie folder, and rename it to opening_rtb.usm without any capital letters or spaces.

Now that our files are in place, we need to pack it all back up into a .cpk file. In order to do this, open Repacker CPK and do the following:
- First, put the "data path" to the root folder on our desktop.
- Second, put the save path to the original location of sound.cpk. This is in the data/patch/12 folder that we opened earlier.
- Finally, untick the "Dir. Mask" and "ForceCompress" boxes. Then click "Build" and another black box will open up with a progress bar. Let this do its work and it'll close itself and give you a box that says "Compression Complete", hit OK.

If you followed all of the instructions in this guide correctly, you will now be able to launch the game and enjoy your new opening.

Feel free to leave comments if you're having issues and I'll try to help!

Sounds like a hardware issue.

Is there a way to get around '>>Code 0x8007000e: Out of memory."

Strike that, I got it to work using https://convertio.co/ converter using AVI with mpeg-4 compressor

What other tool can I use instead of Prism? I was using Prism back then, but it's asking me to buy the software now, but every other .avi converter website won't work with Scaleform, only Prism works for whatever reason

Ah, I see. Yeah the scaleform app is definitely very outdated but it's all we have as far as I'm aware.

I never tried to encode a 4k video so I never knew it'd run into issues, sorry about that!

Found the solution, the video needs to be of Mpeg 4 codec whilst being in the AVI format. 4k coding is a no go as you will most likely run out of memory. The app is cool for what it does but is in desperate need of an update for the current times. I nightmare of a workaround.

That scaleform app seems to be really bugged. It wont encode no avi video files. I follow your instructions step by step and it still says avi file not supported.

OK, I'll try this option. Thank you!
