The ship is entirely impractical, but impressive as all get out!
Thanks for the guide!
Hopefully this helps in preventing people getting confused and wasting their time.
I finished literally all of the steps in the guide and was trying to trigger the The Box's questline. Checked the files and noticed that TMBR's questline was "declined". Turns out that while i did complete it early on, later in the campaign when i was resetting the Free World's content in order to do them again, the game probably bugged out and a couple of random questlines got reset.
I got offered the same mission twice and declined it, turns out that overrode my previous progress.
On the brightside, as long as the ship is following you, you basically have a powerful warship as a free escort! You are free to travel anywhere while the quest is active before you outrun it and it will just follow you around. If it gets damaged by a third party and you board it, i think it counts as shooting it/blowing it up.
But back to the topic of the quest itself, the writing is actually really good. A lot of games are very smug and pretentious with the "ohhhh the real reward is the story!!!" while being time wasters while this quest line is pretty much right next to Free Worlds content so you're not sacrificing much at all, and you get the chance to capture some very decent ships for you fleet!
Cant wait to finish the FW content so i can get started on The Box questline
Most of these do not have timelines at the start so there is no reason to decline them since you can just have them stored in your mission list until you feel like doing them
At one point you will be followed by a pretty well armed Independent ship called Oxyrinchus, you have to outrun it in order to land on your mission planet. If you are having trouble outrunning it, its 100% because you are too slow to land. Swap your flagship to something small and fast like an interceptor class . Jump out a few systems (while fast forwarding) and when you reach your mission system hit your landing autopilot. While its very tempting to board and capture the ship (its a very good ship), once you continue the FW quest line far enough the Independents will become a faction and immediately hostile to you (not sure you can increase your rep back).
Always accept random quests when docked! You might not know which ones are important in starting Free Worlds content!
An early one that is super easy to miss is when you get held up at gunpoint, if you see an option to do some sweet karate moves DONT. Because you will "fail" the event and it will be an extremely long time that you might get another shot at it. This event is crucial in getting into Free Worlds content!
Same goes for being asked to use an outfit scanner to scan a Navy ship or escorting ships through pirate infested locations, these 2 quest lines that are essential in being offered a spot in the Free Worlds!
One of these quests might have you pi ss of Navy ships, dont fire back and quickly do what you need to do, when you jump out of the location your rep with the navy will go back to normal(if you care about your navy rep)
I mean it's good to have hidden Easter eggs and all, but it's a shame because getting to read the lore of the Sheragi and the writing for this quest is the real reward, IMO. :) Endless Sky is like an interactive choose-your-own-adventure book.
Gameplay wise, I like how this ship seems like it's OP and game-breaking from the dialogue, and the fact that it has a massive gun, but it actually isn't really, though its massive maximum outfit space and 6 shuttle bays gives the player many options (Boxwing carrier being one!), being big enough to use some of the larger, more powerful weapons that can be bought or plundered in the game.
