What happened?
This game is locked to 1088p resolution, low-res shadows and has a godawful, blurry, always-on FXAA - all of which is a travesty, a farce and a grave injustice against you, dear reader, and PC Master Race as a whole.

Step into the world of 8K gaming with clean and crispy Neps and leave a comment if you have any questions or suggestions!
Features
  • Resolution upscaling and downscaling
  • Fitting resolution to window size (Base game always renders at 1088p)
  • Disabled FXAA that degraded visuals inside dungeons
  • Tutorials work (unlike with Hyperresolution)
  • Anisotropic texture filtering
  • Improved Bloom shader
  • Bloom intensity & contrast settings
  • Increased shadow quality - to 8192x8192 and beyond
  • Outlines intensity control, as well as optional simple outlines shader
  • VSync options: On, Off, Adaptive
  • Nep: Nep
In short
Install
1) Download the mod from here[github.com]
2) Extract both files inside - opengl32.dll and nep.ini - into the game's base folder.
3) Create a new folder called "Birth3".
4) Move both files into it.

You can find the game folder by right-clicking on your Nep game in Steam library, choosing "Properties", going to "Installed Files" tab and clicking "Browse".

If running on Linux (especially Gentoo, which is obviously the best Linux), add this line to Properties ➜ General ➜ Launch options:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="opengl32.dll=n,b" %command%

Neptastic Mod is also available for Re;Birth1 and Re;Birth2!
Configure
Default configuration already provides all the improvements, including 2.0x resolution and 4K shadows.

If you wish to tune it yourself - Open the nep.ini file with any text editor. If needed, right-click on it and go to "Open With".

All the options have self-explanatory names, mirroring the list of features, and have comments explaining their effect and suggested values.

If you ever mess up your configuration, you can just delete the nep.ini file, and a new one with default settings will be created the next time you start the game.

Also, you can copy these config files between Re;Birth2 and Re;Birth3 games.

game still randomly crashes, even with 4GB+ patch, even with a 4070 and 64GB of RAM

nevermind :(
it may be a case of ram filling up too fast? I was playing much more consistently with fewer breaks, and it crashed when I attacked during a battle.
I'll try to upload a log or something if I get the chance.

Bery nice. It can be hard to figure out issues/solutions for PC setups different from me, so thanks for the knowledge.

It may be dumb luck, but setting resolution scaling to 1.5 and shadow intensity to 2.0 fixed the crashing. I played for 6 hours straight without a single issue.

After a long time, it still crashes and cannot even enter the game. There is no solution that can successfully solve the problem.

Why is it needed to move that files to birth 3 folder? When I did it it just stop working I guess. Like did I need to launch it first and then move that files?

Might be running out of memory, depending on your setup. Try reducing "Shadow resolution", and then "Resolution scaling" to 1.0 if the former doesn't help.

Also adding now that I was testing
it should only be the files for Nepastic and the Neptools files that should go on Birth3 which is on the base installation directory of the game

if you are using any other mods, the Neptools folder should be on the base installation folder of the game instead of being inside Birth3
