It’s simple. If your game randomly crashes frequently, sometimes after 5/10 minutes of gameplay, sometimes right after you load a save.

Open the Windows Event Viewer (in start menu search bar). In application category, look for Hitman 3 application errors. If in the detail you see 0x80000003 exception code and if in System category, you see this too : “display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding”, it means that you are affected by the TDR crashing issue…

According to my observations in the last couple of months, with DX11, Nvidia Turing architecture and HITMAN 3, the GPU randomly hits the timeout threshold defined in TDR Windows registry keys.
The nVidia driver doesn't have enough time to recover and this is what causes the crash

The Windows default threshold value is "2" seconds. to prevent this issue from occurring the value must be changed to "10" seconds

Couple off ways to test before doing the actual method:

Try disabling V-sync.
Try changing the Exclusive Fullscreen to Fullscreen, or vice versa.
Try to launch the game in DirectX 12 mode (available in launcher settings).

The Actual Method:

If non of the methods above worked try doing the next solution:

Update your Nvidia drivers to the latest version available (search for the latest hotfix).
Updated 06/28/2022 (GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 516.59)
Simply go to: Start --> Run --> Type in "Regedit" and navigate to:
"Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers"
Create a key of type "DWORD (32-bit) for a 32-bit system. or a "QWORD (64-bit) for a 64-bit system.
Name it "TdrDelay" with a value of '10' as "Decimal value".
Reboot your system, launch the game, and the crashes won't happen :D

In a nutshell it gives the GPU 10 seconds to recover/respond vs. 2 seconds (default).

For anyone who might need help I had crashing on all my games for about a month. All I had to do was roll back by drivers. The May drivers for Nvidia BRICKED all my games after 5-10 minutes of gameplay. Fuck you Nvidia.

In case it helps anyone else I finally resolved this. after testing with more and more games I isolated the crashing just to games running DX12 (not saying for certain its this but was my experience)

anyway after reviewing various other forums online in the end what resolved this fully was downgrading NVIDIA driver to version 576.28 (576.52 is current version as i post this)

to expand on last comment since i hit character limit

Ultra, high, med, low, no difference
I also have a B450 mobo and have tried XMP off/on as suggested by another in thread
file rechack - no change
uninstall / reinstall - no change
nvidia driver full unstinstall/reinstall

in case it helps isolating in future specs below

win 10 x64 pro (up to date)
b450
5800x3d
64gb ddr4
2tb nvme ssd 980 pro
4080 super

no other games affected (in research online i see this error is common with Ghost recon breakpoint, for me i have no issues with that game at all)

I've been unable to resolve. tried all fixes i can find (I think)
recently upgraded to a 4080super, i had zero issues with my prior 3060 super. seems to suggest issue with higher end cards? have 80hrs in world of assassination and hundreds across the trilogy.
all maps affected - crash to desktop randomly appears, seems to trigger most often right as a NPC is about to see me or detect a body?
same win 10 install 64bit win pro. (is about 4 years old, maybe need a reinstall?). resolution 3440x1440 latest drivers. latest think im trying are all different graphics settings

all i tried below

tdrdelay 8 / 10/ 12 / 14 - no difference (mine was already on 8? i see its common to change this for other games from research but i cant honestly recall)
appdata fix menitoned
page file off/on (w/ reboots in between)
vsync - off/on
frame gen off/on
raytracing off/on
windowed/fullscreen
Dx version? no longer an option with World of Assassination AFAIK

Is there a way to switch to DirectX 12 without using the launcher settings? The launcher doesn't work at all for me, just closing whenever I press any of the buttons on it. I've just been playing with the -skip_launcher launch code until now.
