I love doing this stuff whenever it's possible. I especially always try to build really long towers of mines to see how far they can possibly extend. It just takes forever to ride all the way up to get the key card and then ride all the way back down and THEN finish the level just to see the fruit of your labors.

No, you can do this by unlocking the doors at the main floor with a key dropped by a guard if you're quick enough. Behind the door you can see the actors from the cutscene, and anything you stick on them will stay for the cutscene.
