A note of warning
Darkwood is a game heavily focused on exploring your surroundings. Use this walkthrough ONLY if you're really stuck, or just want to find out how to get to the current main story end.

The walkthrough includes both possible paths (at the moment) for reaching the end of the currently available main story as of Alpha 1.2. I might be missing some information here and there due to bugs or just not having been able to cover every related detail yet; let me know in the comments, in case, and I'll see toward adding them in.

Also, I'm not gonna cover the prologue, unless really needed.

Oh, and of course, this guide contains SPOILERS, so read at your own risk.
Beginnings
Whether you played through the prologue or just skipped it, you'll wake up in your hideout, with the Wolf right behind you.

Talk to him and show him the Dog Tag. He'll tell you to go find the Chicken Lady, which is located in a random direction from the hideout.

Get to the Chicken Lady's house. You'll find her in the living room. Talk to her, then show her the Dog Tag. She'll show you a picture.

The dialogue will then be interrupted by the Musician appearing outside the Chicken Lady's house.

Show the picture of the doctor to the Musician, then go to the Wolf camp and show him the picture, too.
It's time to choose a path.

Remember: you'll need to have some proper equipment before you venture into any of the two paths.

Both paths have their pros and cons:
- Picking the Wolf path will begin as much more difficult, but will end up being easier after the first part.
- Picking the Musician path will be less difficult for the first part, but will result in being harder on the second part.

Make your choice.
Finding the doctor, the Wolf way
The Wolf will say he knows who the person is and how to reach him, but he'll ask you a favor in exchange for that.

He'll want you to recover a lynx trophy from a run down cottage located in a random direction from the Wolf camp.

Be sure to venture into recovering this trophy only when you have some good weaponry (A few molotovs, or maybe the double-barreled shotgun with some ammo), because you'll find huge dogs (who are still gonna bite you to death even if you have the "animal aggressivity reduction" skill) and black chompers in that area.

When you find the lynx trophy, you'll have to drag it all the way to the Wolf camp (so make sure your way is clear, or just return to it another day if it's getting too dark ingame).

When the lynx trophy is in place, the Wolf will tell you to leave it there (and, anyhow, you shouldn't be able to drag it anymore). Talk to him and you'll get asked if to go to the doctor's house.
Make sure you have enough space in your inventory for the loot you'll find, and don't worry about time - It won't run out as long as you're in the new area.

The new area is relatively safe from harm, for the most part. The biggest threat you'll find are a bear trap at the entrance of the house you'll have to pass through, and a crazed villager that will ask you to kill him. Doing so will let you get a rusty key off of him, which you can use to open the door in the half-broken house at the very beginning of the area.

Keep proceeding, and you'll end up stumbling on a rather familiar area. Climb through the window and start looting and looking around.
You'll find a locked safe in the living room. Explore the house and you'll manage to find the codes.
For the lazy: The code should be 8543.

When you manage to crack the safe code, you should find in it a seemingly useless toy rocket, a key to a train car, and a map that will show you the train wreck's location.

Go back to the Wolf and return to the normal zone. It's time for the last part.
Finding the doctor, the Musician way
The Musician will say he can organize an "appointment" with the Doctor for you, as long as you do him a favor: he wants you to go to his parents house to find his violin.

You'll receive a card from him for his mother. (If you don't have enough inventory space, it'll be dropped on the ground - be sure to pick it up before you venture into looking for the violin)

The "creepy house" (as it's called on the map) will be located in a random direction from the Chicken Lady's house (always in the dark side of the woods), and will require you to be decently equipped and to possess a gasmask, which you can pick up from either Piotrek or the Wolf. Having good inventory/hotbar space is also a good thing to have, since you're bound to find some decently valued stuff in there - don't forget the card you received from the Musician, also!

When you get to the creepy house, equip the gasmask by moving it into one of your hotbar slots (you'll notice a new status effect that will nullify anything poison-related when you do so).

Explore the house (and be mindful of any possible monster to dispose of) and eventually you'll reach the bathroom. In there you'll find the mother, being "half-dead" in the bathtub. Before doing anything, interact with her, then give her the card. Then, check the wardrobe (and take the loot, if you want), and pull it away - behind it you'll find a safe you can interact with that contains the violin.

Pick it up, then return to the Musician and give it to him. He'll tell you where to find the train wreck, which will be a very far random location from the Chicken Lady's house. Time to meet up with the doc.
Meeting the doctor
The beginning of the last part is rather straightforward, regardless of the chosen path.

Head to the train wreck whenever you find the chance (I'd reccomend doing so after a night, so to make sure you have enough time to scout the place and possibly clear it if you find any monsters).

Reach for the train car. If you picked the Wolf path, you'll need to open the door with the key you picked up in the doctor's house. If you picked the Musician path, you'll find the door open.

Get inside.

If you picked the Wolf path...

...you'll find the Doctor inside ready to talk.

Pick the first option and you'll both be teleported to the underground entrance; you'll have the key for the metal door in your inventory - be sure to use it. Go through the bunker doors, reach the metal door, select the "Use key" option when interacting with it, then go through the door.

If you picked the Musician path...

... when you get inside, you'll be assaulted by the doctor, who will poison you.

You'll now be going through a vision showing the doctor's story. It's rather linear and creepy.

At the end of the path, you'll find yourself. Interact with yourself and the next sequence will start.

You'll have to escape from a bunch of crawlers. You'll find a lot of obstacles along the way (like wardrobes). Run against them and push them away and you'll survive the vision.

The rest is very similar to the Wolf path - the doctor will be surprised to see you shrug off the poison, and will ask for you to bring him to the underground entrance, just like the other path.

Use the key you'll have in your inventory, then go through the bunker doors and reach the end of the tunnel, where you'll find the metal door. Interact with it and select the "Use key" option, and you'll open it.

Congratulations, you reached the end of Darkwood's main story. But it's not really the end just yet... there are lots of things you can still find around the game world, if you know where to look.

As Dylan said, 8459 works now, because they're on the floor in this version...

8459 worked for me

is it possible to do both story paths at once? Get what the wolf wants then tell him you arent ready, then hand the violin over to the kid. Then go back to wolf.

I've gotten a combination of 4958 for the revisit, but no matter what order I put the numbers in, the safe refuses to open. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but this section of the game is either bugged, or much too vague to easily follow.

Have to verify the code as soon as I can. I'll let you know when I find the proper one ;)
In the meantime, you'll have to find it through the clues on the floor. Apologies for the trouble!

I also hope they patch the doctor not entering the underground bunker with you, I killed him because he didn't and wound up not even getting the key either

Yeah, failing that dream sequence seems to be a bit buggy as of right now based on what I've seen on the forums.

When they patch that, I'll see how it works.

For me I apparently ran outside the maps thing and everything went black and I had to re-load to fix it lol
