Basic setup
Getting analog movement to work on the steam deck is very simple. All you have to do is open this file:

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life/valve/autoexec.cfg

and add those lines to it:
joystick 1 joyadvanced 1 joyadvaxisx 3 joyadvaxisy 1 joysidesensitivity 1 joyadvancedupdate

Configure your left joystick in steam controller settings as "Joystick" and you're done!
Changing the Deadzones
You can also adjust the Deadzones to your liking. Add those lines to your autoexec.cfg file, before the "joyadvancedupdate" line:

joysidethreshold 0.15 joyforwardthreshold 0.15

Change "0.15" to adjust your Deadzone. Lower value = smaller Deadzone.

This worked for me, much better than binding the joystick to wasd. Now if only I could get it to work in Half Life Source

No they don't. No movements oob. Valve'd better use trainers to recheck compatibility.

Yo wtf, they fixed it. the default template is now wasd, but the joystick is fixed anyway. I swear I haven't changed anything since I tested last time.

Adalbert, check your controller config, your "left joystick behavior" should be set to "joystick". I've just checked it on the newest version of the game, it works.

*Forgot to mention, out of the box, with the default gamepad config, you literally can't move. You have to select wasd emulating gamepad layout, or fix the axis (I tried your guide, didn't work but I probably did something wrong)

because when it's certified, it means the game works out of the box, usually even without changing the options in-game.

Like just having a launcher before the game launches, where all you do is click 'OK' with the emulated mouse means the game is never certified.

Adalbert, why?

the game should be deck un-certified
