Tips & Tricks
Here are some tips & tricks to getting all of these curses

1. max out your level first

If you are trying to get this achievement before being level 19 or 20, I would recommend doing the breakdowns in the meantime to level up first. Some curses cannot be unlocked until later levels, including stuck-effect curses, which only unlock after reaching level 19. Level 20 has an even greater boost, giving you five curse re-rolls to start. As such, you should max out your level first.

2. Play on breakdown 10

If you are struggling to get penalties, play on breakdown 10. The more penalties from breakdown 6 and the penalties in twos from breakdown 10 will combine to give you plenty of penalties in every run. Once you have all of the penalties unlocked, I would recommend playing on impending breakdown difficulty, or even self-fulfilment difficulty, as some curses are really hard to play with.

3. Getting specific penalties

Most penalties are available everywhere, but some are unique to department enemies. These penalties can be gotten in either the same department or the previous department (example: you can get a industrial pollution penalty in the hall of eternity). Hall of eternity penalties may be hard to come by, so if you need specifically hall of eternity penalties, I recommend playing on breakdown 10, checking the tree beforehand to see if there is a tier 2 curse with a penalty, getting the first curse in the first room, and then defeating the thanager and getting the second curse. You should find some hall of eternity penalties.

4. Choose an infuse curse if you see one

Some curses need a prerequisite curse in order to appear. these mostly need infuse curses, so if you see a curse with infuse in it, grab it.
The infuse curses that unlock other curses include the following:
  • Bleed
  • Poison
  • Frozen
  • Burn (and pyre)
  • Lightning
  • Deadly Butterflies
  • 50% Lifesteal
note that pyre, which makes enemies explode, is a secondary prerequisite for drowned fire.

5. Focus a curse

Pick a curse from the list above that you don't have yet (the slot is empty) and try to aim for it. If it needs a prerequisite curse, look for the previous curse first. This really helps when you combine it with the next tip.

6. Stack curse re-rolls

Try not to spend any of your curse re-rolls until later game, around late modern warfare/natural disasters department. Then, spend them all on a specific area where a curse you may not have yet could appear (example: if you are missing a level 5 blue curse, re-roll the fifth from the bottom in the blue tree). If you need a prerequisite curse first, try to get a run with the prerequisite as the first curse. Prerequisite curses besides deadly butterflies and lifesteal are level 1. use your five re-rolls, you can start over immediately for a new seed if you don't find it

7. Be aware of department bonuses

Every department except hall of eternity gives a bonus for a select colour of curse. This causes all gray rarity curses to be removed from the mix. If you are going for a gray rarity curse, make sure you are not in a department with a corresponding bonus. Otherwise, being in a bonus department is a great help as it removes several curse opportunities.

8. Keep your tree open

One thing that is valuable to do when collecting curses is choose them based on their location in the curse tree (unless it is a new curse). Try to get curses that will unlock new spots in the tree, and avoid those that don't. If you have many curse options at the same time, it is more likely that you will find a new curse. If you see a very important curse that will help you with your run, but it will not unlock any new curses, then it is worth getting it anyways to ensure you can finish your run.

9. Green checkmark (new to 1.0.1)

As of 1.0.1, Each curse has a small green checkmark in the bottom right corner. It lights up green if you already have the curse, and is barely noticeable if you don't.
Example:

If you see a non-checked curse, it means that you don't have it. This is extremely helpful for finding new curses and getting the achievement.
Final words
Overall, this is a very difficult achievement, but having this guide will make it many times easier as you will know what curses you are missing. Hopefully, this guide will help you get the Oh Shoo, O'Shah achievement.

Thanks for the guide, I just wanna say that, if anyone is seeing this guide in 2025, the game doesn't require you to pick up the penalties, just the curses (buffs). (VERY DIFICULT ACHIEVEMENT HOLY JESUS) :csgoskull:

I've just redone about ten runs. The game no longer offers any enemy-specific penalties after the 2nd department.
I don't know what caused this (an Xbox bug, perhaps). I hope I'll be able to get them during the first 2 departments...

@the_dead_dragon hi, I just did a test run on breakdown 10 and was able to get both penalties (in the same curse, funnily enough). Try to only get curses with associated penalties in your 3rd and 4th departments (choose warfare as your fourth), and try to choose enemy-specific penalties to remove them from the pool. This will make the two you are looking for much more likely to appear. Good luck on getting this achievement!

@Pizzahog01 Hello, I'm missing 2 curses penalties in modern Warfare department ("vengeful Bombaras" and "Cantankerous caderacts").
I kill the bosses of the physical/mental department over and over again. I take the elevator to go directly to their room in difficulty 10.
The game doesn't give me any curses penalties concerning the enemies on the next level.
Do you have the same problem ?

@Captain H. N. Artist I am actually aware of this part of drowned fire, I reached this conclusion myself while I was originally looking for the curses. I never thought to add it to the guide, I will do so immediately. Thank you very much for your comment! Don't be afraid to comment an other questions or concerns!

Hey @Pizzahog01 - thanks alot for this guide! - It helped me alot!
But... I must add one more thing to this - The "Drowned Fire" curse need "Chillash" to proc - This info strangely appear nowhere (reddit, steam guides,...) - so I had to deduce and try over and over.... Because of not knowing this, I ran 5 runs just to get nothing - this was the last curse I need to have btw

P/s: And I also tested this theory - got into the shop with a Prismium and rank 4, 5, 6 blue curse polls, then tried different combination

P/s 2: Now, for the logical explanation - "Drowned Fire" appear only after "Chillash" is gotten because "Chillash" deals "Pyre" - 50dmg right after "Burn" effect runs out -> "Drowned Fire" reduce the "Burn" time down -> so you'll be able to proc "Pyre" quicker & easier

In the latest update, fake it 'til you make it was patched, and should appear normally now. Good luck on getting the achievement everyone!

In official discord there's a solution: you need to downgrade your game via steam console

@Just Ice that curse is bugged and either rarely appears or doesn't appear at all, based on mixed findings. Your best bet is to wait for an update, but trying to get different curses to see if it has a pre-requisite is a good idea as well.

Any tip on how to get the fake it till ya make it?
