Solution to low GPU usage for modern graphics cards (Nvidia & AMD)
By SavageBeastZero
I've noticed there were a lot of threads where users were encountering low GPU usage on modern graphics cards. The solution is quite simple for both Nvidia and AMD users. Just make note that even with this solution, your CPU's capabilities may limit GPU usage in CPU bound scenarios. Regardless, using this simple fix, will unlock the maximum potential of your system when playing the Crysis series. (Yes, this works for all Crysis titles).

Step #1 (Nvidia/AMD): Launch Crysis 3. Then, set your in game graphics settings to your desired preference. Don't enable Vsync or GPU utilization will be limited by enabling this option. Once you have set your graphics settings to your desired preference, Close Crysis 3. Move to step #2

Step #2 (Nvidia GPU): Simply open the Nvidia control panel. Select the "Manage 3D settings" tab. -> Program settings -> Select Program to customize -> Add -> Crysis 3 -> Then scroll down to "Max Frame Rate" -> 1000 FPS. Save the profile. Move to step #3.

Step #2 (AMD GPU): Perform the same process as above, but you instead to solve this issue, utilize Rivatunerstatisticsserver (AKA: Rivatuner) and set maximum FPS there. There are other ways to do this with an AMD card, but I highly suggest using Rivatunerstatisticsserver (AKA: Rivatuner), as setting it on a per game basis is easier and generally works without issue upon game launch.Save the profile If you're unsure what Rivatuner is, please use Google, then locate an official safe download location. Move to step #3.

Step #3: Relaunch Crysis 3. Your GPU usage should now only be limited to your CPU's capabilities in CPU bound scenarios and GPU utilization should now be maximized unlocking the full potential of your system while running Crysis 3!!!!

I hope this helps everyone who's had issues running Crysis 3 to the fullest of your systems capabilities. Have a good one and enjoy the game!

As a reference point, the low GPU load in Crysis 3 has been fixed in the Crysis 3 Remastered. So there's that.

You can try enabling it via the Nvidia Control Panel. As long as you have the proper refresh rate set in the NVCP, it's likely that if you enable it here, it will sync to your monitors refresh rate. if it works, GPU utilization will be limited to the maximum possible frames available (i.e 120Hz -> 120FPS). Pending this theoretical solution worked, it would likely be a smooth experience. Give it a shot.

what if i am a sucker for VSync? never played any game without it so far.I just hate the jitters. Any chance still using that trick with VSync?

I tried this thinking it wouldnt work but it did!
Only thing to add is if your game doesn't start after opening Afterburner/Rivaturner you have to start the game first then start Afterburner/Rivaturner otherwise the game doesn't boot. At least on AMD Card, RX 6700.

Glad it helped! It was pretty concerning to know this still wasn't resolved in an update, so I figured considering the solution was pretty simple for anyone to apply, it only made sense to get the word out. Have a good one man. I appreciate the thanks!

Worked, got me from 60-62fps to 80 on my RTX3060. Thanks!
