How to play Vertically (TATE mode) (with ReShade)
By y4k ;; lucky doG
Use ReShade to play the game like it's meant to be played! (.ini included)

intro.
Since the game's screen is vertical, like many classic shmups, I thought it would be great if you could play the game in ❝TATE mode❞, a term derived from the Japanese word for vertical ( 縦 ) pronounced "tah-tay" (tah teɪ)), which means to play with a vertical monitor setup, showing more game on your screen like so:

Which is epicly FTW and the only way you should play shmups or any vertical game ever.

Apparently, because the game's made in the Gamemaker engine, one dev in the discord said that another dev said that it's a nightmare to implement it into the game. Luckily there's an easy way to do it with ReShade.
I'll drop my ReShade .ini below and write a bit on how to install it (it's insanely easy).
.ini file link
Here's the link to the .ini file[drive.google.com]

*EDIT* You might have to manually adjust the [Rotation Angle] parameter to [89.750] now. Please let me know if this has to be done cuz then I'll edit the .ini file :p
how to install.
To install Reshade, head over to https://reshade.me/ and download the latest version. Install and run the .exe.

Click on the Star of Providence .exe in the window (if you can't find it, click browse and manually browse to it) and hit next.

After, select DirectX 10/11/12 and hit next

After this, in the next screen you can select the SoP_TATE_Mode.ini and finish the installation (by clicking next) and you can start the game and it will be in glorious TATE Mode.

When launching the game, the ReShade menu will show, (which you can open with the 'Home' button) and asks you if you want to do the tutorial. You can just skip this, tick the performance mode box in the bottom right corner, hit 'home' again and go on with your gaming.

Now, don't forget to turn your monitor in REAL LIFE in a vertical position, otherwise the game will be pretty much rendered unplayable.

It should look something like this. Gaming Time.😎
(yes I know my desk pad needs replacement badly, I'll get to it promptly I swear!)
doing it manually.
If you don't select a .ini where the installer prompts it, it lets you install a myriad of shaders manually. There's a lot of useful and awesome looking shaders here and I recommend you to try them all out and tune the games you're playing to your liking.

The shader I used to rotate and resize the screen is called ❝CShade_Transform❞, you can find these in the brilliant CShade shaderpack by papadanku[papadanku.github.io] which comes selectable in the latest version of reshade here:

these are the settings I used:

*EDIT* You might have to set the [Rotation Angle] parameter to [89.750] now.

Now there's many things you could do, you could add a more realistic CRT emulation, you could add banners with art to cover up the wrapping pixels, you could mess the colors up completely, etc. etc.

Go crazy, the world is your oyster, have fun!

Hah I also dug out my old Dell swivel monitor and tried this. I am half tempted to do this on an arcade CRT I found a few years back.

This game works fine already with my vertical monitor and fills it out well. Does this do anything different?

Thanks Lucky and Fart lol I had to put my rotation angle to .250, and my scaling to .46x1.000 for my monitor to be nicely filled out.

@snakeman07 (not sure if u can even mention ppl in comments here even)
I don't know why this changed, (maybe the CShade_Transform shader got an update?)
But I think you now have to set the [Rotation Angle] parameter in CShade_Transform to 89.750[/b] or 90.250[/b] now…
Hope this helps !

FYI, for anyone that's only seeing stretched output from the ini file. It's because rotation angle is supposed to be a decimal value between 0 and 1.

I had to set Rotation Angle to 0.250 to get the angle I wanted.

Not sure if an update changed this, but I'm happy! Thanks for the guide!

I finally got tate star of providence on a Switch running moonlight.

Noice!

I have my old monitor still and its a Samsung, believe it or not it allows you to swivel it to the vertical position, I did this on down well :)

I was gonna get rid of it, now I think I may use it for an Arcade cabinet.

P.S. Love the pic at the top of this guide, NES games - SLR camera, Xbox arcade stick (I got one of those)

I miss the old days, been gaming for 40 years now, there was nothing like coming across an arcade/arcade machine, also loved going to NAMCO world at Piccadilly Circus with my mates on a day trip on the train :)

Cheers for the cool Mod :)

Unfortunately I'm having trouble getting this to work. Did exactly everything you listed, but it won't work on my rig for some reason.

Please take my points and thank you.

This won't work for me. It just stretches out the game. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
