Making Custom Stickers
By Arkive
So you want to make a fancy new car skin. That's fine and dandy, but you want to use some pictures from the internet to make it look awesome. How do you make them into stickers? This guide will teach you how.

Before We Begin
First off, I did not figure this out on my own. I found a lot of helpful sources from the internet. For example, this guide: http://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/app/228760/guides/#scrollTop=100. It was what taught me how to add stickers into Canyon (and the other TM2 games), but there are a few subtle differences between that and TMU.

Now, stickers are relatively easy to make and use. This guide will take you through it step by step.

To create a custom sticker, you need a program that can save pictures as .TGA and .DDS files. I recommend Paint.NET, but any program that can do this will work. The next thing you need is the picture you want to use. I recommend finding a .PNG file with a transparent backround, so there won't be a coloured square around your picture.

Now that that's covered, let me begin the tutorial proper. Let's start by making a new Stadium car. Remember to "Save As" so you don't overwrite a skin! The car I am making will feature a simple smiley face on the front.
Creating Your Sticker
Once you have a .PNG you are going to modify it slightly. I'm going to use the Smiley face on the left. First, you need a place for the sticker to be. You will need to go here:
My Documents>TrackMania>Painter>Stickers. If any of these folders do not exist, create them. Then, you will create a folder for the sticker to reside. Simply make a folder and name it anything.

Next, you need to make the sticker image that goes on the car. This is the .TGA file. It is recommended that the image does not exceed 500 by 500 pixels in size, otherwise the image quality drops. When you have modified the image to your liking, save it as Sticker.TGA in the folder you had created. Don't compress the sticker when you save it! After this, make a 64 by 64 pixel icon for your sticker. This will appear in the sticker selection bar. This time, save it as Icon.DDS. When you have done this, the folder should look like the image on the right.
Done!
Now, just go into the painter and scroll along the stickers until you find the one you made! Apply it to the car like any other sticker and race in style!
As a Note
Thank you for reading my guide! I hope it helped you learn how to make custom stickers. I highly appreciate rates and comments. Comment on anything: what you liked, didn't like, what I could do to get better, a small grammatical error, to say "Hi!", anything. Thanks to the internet for teaching me this in the first place and thanks again to you for reading.

Stickers are just a tool to help with making car skins, and as such they don't affect whether your skin shows up online. If you're looking to make sure your skin appears for others online, you'll need to look into "locators." Essentially, you'd be hosting your skin file on the internet and grabbing a direct link to its file, then sticking that link in a text file. Take a look at this guide for specifics: https://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=147553218

I've concluded GIMP doesn't work good with .TGA files

I know this is old but I've had lines just jet out of my stickers, does this mean anything?

It was used back in the 90s.
