Nintendo 64 Original Movement Mod

Description
When the Turok Remaster was released, movement speed was increased by around 1.25x

This was done because gamers nowadays are bunch of crybabies lack the the skill and persistance necessary to perform the platforming sections, they want success to come to them easy.

*COUGH*

"We want our game to reach a modern audience."

So what I did was approximate the movement speed the N64 Turok game has, this is by no means a 1:1 conversion, just an approximation.

Now, despite the running and swimming being slowed down, it is by no means significantly harder when playing with the remaster controls. The N64 controller itself was an important factor in why platforming was considerably more difficult. The only difference in playstyle is that diagnol strafing is slightly more important now for platforming.

This mod's purpose is a demonstration that gaming has significantly taken on the mobile game/gambling approach of giving the player instant gratification with few losses as possible.

Recommend to use FOV 47.5

I don't like obstacles that instantly kill the player in any game tbh.
Invalidates having a health bar in the first place if the only time I die its because of an insta kill death trap.

@Pan the Sylveon To be clear i wrote all that stuff about "skill" as a joke, i know platforming isn't really that difficult, even with this mod. But i guess the idea of platforming decisions had a lot to do with padding the length of the game more than anything else. I've seen a lot of players breeze through jumping sections, and even have the enemies spawn on top of the player because they simply move more faster than the original devs designed the game for. I remember throwing my controller and being emotionally defeated the first times i ever played Turok, and believe me dying and losing your progress is a horrible feeling. But that caused me to get better, and appreciate the game in the first place.

Its cool that you care to preserve the original way the game was supposed to be played but platforming sections in FPS games will always be a waste of time and effort.
If you want to challenge the player, do it via enemy encounters or anything that is actually based around the reason people buy and play FPS games in the first place.
Platforming is always a snoozefest. Its a chore. There is nothing exciting about platforming in a shooter.
"Wow, you can move to the very edge of the platform and press the jump key!! That's so much skill!! I can't believe these filthy kids don't appreciate the skill expression!!"

I'd find more mental stimulation in doing trivial house chores than playing through a platforming section within a shooter.

When I want to play the N64 version version I just boot up my modded original Xbox and play it with a Series X controller on a 65 inch 4K OLED for the maximum cursed Turok experience.

Not a mod for me but I imagine there are people who could get something out of it. The hate seems strange but I think people are just desperate for any mod for Turok so will complain about ones not meant for them.

@ big guapo I'm going to keep this one comment of yours up. You, and solely you, have been coming back to a mod page of an obscure game all of 2024 typing all kinds of nonsense. I deleted your nasty comments because they have nothing to do with the mod itself, just disparaging remarks towards me, and I have every right to do so, it's my page after all.

Again, it's just you who's been making constant, consistent comments every couple of months, and I find it eye-opening you decided to spend the day before New Years to manually find this mod to hate comment, which clues me in that you don't really have a good home life.

You. need. mental. help. Your pettiness is abnormal, you know that right?

I don't "fear" you, I just don't want to give my time to stalkers like you. there's a stark difference.

That comment number would be literally insane if he didnt schizophrenically spend the kind of time he does deleting comments of people frying him. Keep hiding from me you coward, you aint getting rid of me

Turok 1,2, and 3 have had their animation speeds increased in some way or another due to going from around 25 fps to 60 fps. I doubt you'll find information of it now, I think I first heard the 1.25x figure on a Turok discord server. I eyeballed the feel of the movement speed on emulator and it came close to that figure.
