Introduction
Omsi 2 is a bus driving simulation game set in Germany during the 80s and 90s. The focus of the game is in the Spandau borough, but the base game has two maps. The smaller Grundorf is a fictional village map with a single short bus route 76 and is designed as a tutorial map. The main Berlin-Spandau map from 1986 till 1994 includes multiple routes - day, night and several special routes. This guide shows you instructions and information on how to play on the Berlin Spandau map, about buses, bus routes, timetables, destinations, codes and tours. In the game, Berlin changes between before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989, the map was expanded to include the borough of Falkensee with one bus route.
On this map you can see where the bus traffic takes place in the game.
Settings
Finding the best settings takes some time. Unlike most games, OMSI 2 does not run well at the highest settings. Detailed city scenery can be a challenge for OMSI 2 graphics engine, and wrong settings can result in low FPS, white or missing 3D graphics, missing sounds, and error messages. If your game is running slow and you have a low frame rate, or if your bus is jumping or the game is crashing, try lowering your game and graphics settings to make the game run smoothly.
Basically, if you have slow game performance or the game is unplayable, lower the settings. If you have no problems with the game, gradually increase the settings until you find the best.
Graphics settings
If you are having problems with the game, to improve performance, try to:
  • reduce amount of neighbouring tiles (1-2)
  • reduce Max. Obj. Visibility Distance (per 1 tile approx. 300m)
  • set Real Time Reflexions to Economy or None
  • reduce Max. Object and Map Complexity
  • turn off Stencil Buffer Effects or deactivate the Shadows
The more neighboring tiles you have to load, the more objects are in memory. If your view distance is above 500 and you have 1 neighboring tile, it’s just going to try load objects that you can not see. So reduce maximum visibility. Reducing the complexity of the objects and the map reduces CPU load and makes the game smoother. Stencil buffer effects demand considerable resources, especially for displaying shadows. Therefore it is recommended to disable them completely. You can get some extra frames by deactivating particles.
Advanced graphics settings
"Forced Refl. Economy Mode" is only active if "Real Time Reflections" in Graphics settings is set to "Full". Set “Max. Tex. Mem. For high rex. Tex. Load” between 1024 - 4096MB depending on your GPU and “Real Time Reflexions Texture Size” between 256-512.
Sound settings
Sound uses a lot of CPU resource. To reduce CPU load adjust the sound settings. This will have a significant effect on increasing the frame rate.
Sound settings:
  • set Max. Sound Count between 50 and 150
  • turn off AI and Scenery Sounds, Doppler and Reverb effects
AI traffic settings
AI traffic settings:
  • set “Road Traffic Max. Count”:
    - Unscheduled below 100
    - Scheduled below 20
  • set “Humans Max. Count” below 200
  • reduce the “Road traffic factor” and “Parked cars”
Scheduled AI traffic is known to require a lot of processor power. Disabling AI traffic reduces CPU load. If you get white areas during the game, for good performance you should reduce the number of both AI cars and scheduled AI buses under "Road Traffic Max. Count". This will greatly improve performance. If you set "Shedule priority" lower, you will see less and lesser other busses, trams, trains, etc. For a good variety keep this at 4 and reduce the “Road Traffic Max. Count: Scheduled” instead.
Summary
How to improve performance:
  • reduce amount of neighbouring tiles
  • reduce "Max. Obj. Visibility Distance"
  • deactivate the shadows
  • reduce "Max Object Complexity" and "Max. Map Complexity"
  • reduce "Max. Sound Count"
  • reduce "Road Traffic Max. Count"
  • reduce "Road traffic factor"
  • reduce "Humans Max Count"
TIP:
To provide OMSI with more RAM, the so-called 4GB patch can be used.
Apply a 4GB patch that converts 32bit applications to utilize more than 2GB of VRAM.
Deselect the autosave game option: the autosave option lags the game at each bus stop, so turn it off.

Buses
As for buses, we have MAN SD200 and MAN SD202 double-deckers with countless variants and different looks.
MAN SD200
MAN SD202

And the MAN NL202 single-decker bus and the MAN NG272 three-axle articulated bus.
MAN NL202
MAN NG272
Older MAN SD200 buses from SD77 to SD 81 and SD83 "rollsign" have the old manually set destination display. The rest of the MAN SD200 series from SD82 to SD85 and the newer MAN SD202, NL202 and NG272 buses use IBIS to set the route information that appears on the matrix display. On double-decker buses after 1 June 1991, bus routes with four numbers such as 130E and 137E cannot be displayed. In order to correctly enter the data on the matrix display, you need the destination and line/route codes, which you can find below for each bus route on the Berlin-Spandau. In general, every bus can cover every route on map.
Views
[F1] Driver View – The view from the driver’s seat.
[F2] Passenger View - Interior view from the bus.
In the driver and passenger view, you can use the [Left] and [Right] arrow keys to view to the left and right of the driver's seat and the interior of the bus.
[F3] External View - The view that follows the bus.
[F4] Map View - With this camera, you can view the entire map.
You can also zoom and pan from any map view using the mouse.
There are two special views:
a) [Insert] to view the bus route
b) [Home] to view the ticket sales area
Both views only last as long as you continue pressing the relevant key.
Heating
To heat the bus, you need to heat the bus coolant. The interior temperature should be comfortable, but at the same time, make sure that the passengers get enough fresh air. Windows in the passenger compartment can be opened to let in fresh air, and the heating system can also provide ventilation. With the fan you will circulate fresh air, heated fresh air, or heated recycled air in the vehicle interior.
To open/close windows from inside the bus press [F2] and click on any window to open/close. You can also open/close windows by clicking on the window outside.

To warm up the bus, use the red lever, the second one on the left of the front heater by moving from "blue" (cold) to "red" (warm). With the lever on the far right you can regulate the air circulation: heated fresh air is up, unheated fresh air is middle, and heated recycled air is down. With interior heater you can warm up the entire bus. To warm up the coolant on cold days you can turn on the auxiliary heater, so the engine will warm up faster. With the fan you will circulate fresh air, heated fresh air, or heated recycled air in the vehicle interior.
Buses NL202 and NG272 are equipped with a modern control panel located above the driver's seat. You can control blower intensity using the buttons 1 to 3. The second and third position is only available while the engine is running. As soon as the blower is active you can set the temperature using the “-“ and “+” button on the far left. Usually the front blower is using outdoor air. Press “Smog” if you only want to use circulated air and press the button in the middle to use a mixture. "DEF" is short for “Defrost” and heats the windshield. To turn off the blower press the 0 button.
Old destination display unit
The old manually set destination display is used for MAN SD200 buses from SD77 to SD81.
Press the [F8] button, then click the "Up" / "Down" button or press keyboard shortcut [PgUp] / [PgDn] to set the route destination.
For the route number, go outside, press the first [F5], second [F6] or third [F7] number roll and then hold the [PgUp] or [PgDn] button to set the route number on the display.
MAN SD83 "Rollsign" series bus have a different destination display control unit.
Enter the destination and route number using the "+" and "-" buttons, then press green buttons.

Or if this is too slow for you, click the "Set Line and Terminus" button in the game menu to set the route number and destination.
Bus Routes
In Berlin - Spandau there are three main timetables per year:
a) [Mo-Fr] Monday - Friday
b) [Sa] Saturday
c) [So] Sunday
Lines marked with the letter "E" together with a number (e.g. "5E") are shortened routes compared to the regular ones. Night buses are marked with the letter “N” (e.g. “5N”,“N30”). The map has one special line E 522 that goes after the fall of the Berlin Wall until September 1990.

5 stars + from me. Thanks for this, especially for new players, it's more helpful than the actual manual. I'm 70-80 hours in, but even I gain some info, I wasn't sure about. It doesn't help the player, that they chose to start with a map, that includes so many variants in bus numbers and changes of bus stop names etc, depending on the year selected. Although of course it's actually historically correct and important they did.
