At some point you probably have so many businesses, that one warehouse isn't enough anymore. At this point you can get into manually setting up the supply chains. Like having one storage barn in a village that collects all the raw materials and one warehouse in the city that's responsible for all the more advanced products.

I have 1 storage barn, which is always working while the transporters in another warehouse doesn't do anything. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong here.
