How to hit the funny Zooey Dustloop

Hitting Zooey's j.U multiple times before landing and then doing it again is very funny. And in Granblue it's super easy and consistent and leads to big damage numbers from a large variety of different hits. I'll show you how to can incorporate this cool tech into your Zooey gameplay to get more out of your hits

Introduction
I'll just start by explaining what a Dustloop is before going into how to use Zooey's j.U to replicate it.

What is a Dustloop

Dustlooping is from the game Guilty Gear (also an arcsys game), and is pretty much where you use Sol Badguy's jumping dust attack right as you leave the ground and also just before you hit the ground. This means the attack is used twice in one jump. After this you can either continue it with some crazy combo extenders, dustloop them again or end the combo with some high damage moves. I didn't play Sol in guilty gear so I'm not too knowledgeable on the nuances of dustlooping in those games but the only important part we need to understand is that the attacks can be performed multiple times before hitting the ground and can be comboed after the second hit.

An example of this is can be seen here

As you can see he can perform the dustloop twice before ending it with a break and volcanic viper.

Looking at the image of Sol's j.D and Zooey's j.U, you can see that they are pretty much the same attack.


Meaning we can use Zooey's j.U in pretty much the same way.
How to dustloop
The easiest way to learn how to dustloop is to do the advanced corner combo from the combo tab on Zooey's character guide. This is pretty much the bread and butter of the combo so I would recommend getting good at this combo and then we can talk about how to convert into this from different point on the screen.

A few tips when doing this combo, you need to press the j.U button as you leave the ground not when you're at the apex of your jump. There is also a delay before the second close heavy.

Converting into the dustloop
There are a few mains ways to convert into the dustloop however, they all require you to hit either a medium or heavy dragon.

What can convert into the dustloop?

The Basic dustloop combo looks like this (using just medium dragon to launch as an example)
launcher > 236M > j.U > j.U > c.H > ender

The ender you do depends on how many hits you've already done the most optimal is either c.H > 236236U, c.H > 214H > 6H > c.H, 236236H, or just 235235H. (More on this in the next section)

To launch the enemy as mentioned earlier you can use either medium or heavy dragon. The combo for heavy dragon is identical to medium dragon so I wont post it here. Additionally, after an anti-air 2H you can go into medium dragon then convert into the dustloop. If you are going to learn one of these combos this is the most important one since hitting a 2H is not too difficult and allows you to start dustloops from a variety of different attacks including 66H anti-air, or j.U.

Examples

The basic one is:
2H > 236M > j.U > j.U > c.H > ender

j.U into dustloop (j.U can be used as a safejump in the corner in some cases so this is also important)
j.U > 2H > 236M > j.U > j.U > c.H > ender

Heavy dragon from long range (Big Damage)
236H > dash > 66H > 2H > 236M > j.U > j.U > c.H > ender

Ending the Dustloop
Its pretty simple to end the dustloop. If you hit any attacks (not including CH c.H for some reason) before the medium or heavy dragon do, c.H > 236236U. If you started with either medium or heavy dragon do, c.H > 214H > 6H > c.H > 236236U. If you decided to do the second dustloop, end with just 236236H.

In all of these cases if you don't have meter or just don't want to spend it you can either end it is 22[H] for okizeme, or 623H for damage.
The second dustloop
You can do more than one dustloop however, because of the combo limiter you cannot do three :(. There's really no reason to do two dustloops anyway because it results in less damage than just doing one. You can't finish the combo with Armageddon meaning you have to finished with either a lower damaging special or Gamma ray. It's still fun to do anyway though.

What moves convert into the double dustloop?
The moves that can convert into a double dustloop are
  • 2H and all starters that use 2H
  • 236H
  • j.U (Air-to-air)

Examples

236H into double dustloop
236H > j.U > j.U > j.U > j.U > 236236H

j.U into double dustloop
j.U > 2H > 236M > j.U > j.U > j.U > j.U > 236236H

236H from long range
236H > dash > 66H > 2H > 236M > j.U > j.U > j.U > j.U > 236236H

The combo will always limit in the next hit after the loop so you either have to finish it with 236236H, 623H, or 22[H].
Conclusion
Good job you can now convert into the funny attack multiple times in the same combo from different hits. All you need to do now is use them in games and you'll get better at recognising when a dustloop opportunity pokes its head out.
