Getting Started - What do I do, where do I click? It's so complicated!
Sample Text

The main menu may intimidate you, do not fear!

It's exactly as complex as you think it is, but I'm here to show you the way to success.

Let's take a look at the menu and the options submenu.

Main Menu

Things to look out for -
  • ARENAS - Either create or host your gameserver
  • How to Play - Basic controls menu, we can simply look in options for full control control.*
  • Options - See below
  • Play Intro - Pointless background story that doesn't apply to gameplay.
  • Quit - Exit the game.

Options Menu

To the right, you can see resolution and aspect ratio settings. Set the aspect ratio custom to your monitor, and I would reccomend lowering the resolution for 2 reasons -

- If you do not have a computer nearly as powerful as mine, you WILL lag at almost every monitors maximum resolution. This is not recommended if you are pro.

- Pros in general lower resolution. We will follow their steps blindley.

Why do I play at 1440p?

- Well, one... because I can. My extra speedy 256 mb floppy drive and AMD Potato at a whopping 3.2 khz can run nearly anything you have ever dreamed of.

- Two, I am already a pro, I can do what the hell I want. I'm even sponsored by doritos. Do not follow my steps blindley, you CANNOT handle it.

ARENAS Menu

- You most likely will not find any legitiment servers up and running, I would recommend to create your own LAN server.

- Pros only use LAN servers - this means that everyone playing PA:SW is a pro, and you have a long way to come to match our skill level.

How to Play/Play Intro

- Skip these.

Quit

- After facing me in a LAN match, thats the only button you'll be pressing in 5 minutes.
Creating a LAN and First Steps / Impressions.
Your First Match!

If you've ever played games like TF2, or CoD, you'll be able to find yourself jumping right in. The action packed gameplay is the most intense I've ever expirienced. May I warn you that if you do not handle adrenaline well, this game is NOT for you.

Creating a LAN Server

Simply click the "Create Server" button. Choose your desired game mode (These are self explanitory)

4 teams is ideal - Be sure to drink mountain dew and eat doritos to get the full expirience out of 4 team gaming. It's very intense!

Difficulty - easy if this is your first time. Hard if you think your getting good, then only play LAN once you reach the very good level.

Hats!

Much like the game TF2, PA:SW features hats and customizations. While these do not have any real value, gamers around the world will recognize you as a better and more skilled player - and even a richer human being in general. These are VITAL to your success.

Power-Ups
There are a few powerups laid around the map for you to pick up. These can do anything from reduce skidding or change your weapon.

Weapon Pick Ups -

Fish Bomb - This is very usefull if standing on the sideline and watching other players battle. Throwing a Fish Bomb in the middle of the action could potentially throw all other players into the depths of the sea.

Fish Crate - 10 fish for you to throw. Easier to aim and faster deployment, but less knockback. These are good for people near the edge, as you can spam fish and they will remain defenseless. Only the best of the best strafers will be able to counter it.

Metal Bomb Thing - Slower deployment, larger kickback. Usefull for mid map players to drive them towards the edge or even all the way off if you land your shots handilly.

Mechanics and Physics

The airstrafing is a dimmed down version of TF2 - while not in total control, you have enough to manage your way around. Air strafing is a vital mechanic to save your life when coming off that scary edge!

Sliding is a major factor - If you're hit by a snowball, you could skid right off the edge. Bear Feet are a great powerup to prevent this, but there is still a chance if you sliding off. This is where strafing comes in handy. (See advanced tactics for more information)

Projectiles - Airshotting a penguin in this game is more than you could even imagine yourself doing. A double airshot is rarely seen, and a triple airshot has only been recorded once in history - a quad airshot is only a rumer, and 5 airshots is only possible with hacks. Remember, bullets do not insta hit as in CoD - they will travel. This is a factor you need to keep in mind.

Advanced Tactices and Strategys
"I'm getting good, all because of you and your magnificent tutorial, now what?"

Dedication

Now it's time to get into the nitty gritty things. If you are truly good, you can go ahead and devote your life to this game. Nothing else is worth it. That is THEE most important step of getting good at any game. This game is probably the most full time dedication required game.

Fourth Dimension and Gabe

Many people don't understand the 4th dimension. When you get into gaming, you are truly expiriencing it. The god of gaming himself - Gabe Newell - You can feel the 4th dimension and sometimes even the fifth just by looking at him.

What do I do if I feel to powerful from Gabe?

Relax - this is a good thing. You will finally see the light in life. Each and everything you live for will shine like a sunday morning lakes reflection.

Air Strafing - In-Depth

First off, DO NOT forget those doritos!

When pushed off the edge - it's easy to be frightened. Gabe comes to play in these moments. Think about his beard, the sparkles, the love. This will relax your shoulders and everything will slip into place. Pressing either A or D and turning your mouse in the opposite direction - ex. A - Mouse Move Right;D - Mouse Move Left. This will strafe you back near the edge. To gain a small amount of air acceleration, (as in other titles such as CS 1.6) - you can wiggle your mouse back and fourth and long slow strokes between right and left - see what works best for you. This will cause air acceleration giving you a better chance at getting another shot at life.

Hitting Those Shots - In-Depth

Mountain Dew comes into play in these situations!

Carful, you might find yourself overshooting a lot of shots. That's ok - at first. Everyone does when they start out, besides me. I was a natural. There isn't a better way to get better than to
practice practice, gabe
Other games have similar mechanics. If you ever need to take a break, while it is frowned upon, it's ok every once and a while to treat yourself to another game. This will trigger your skills in a more minor manor, but maybe a more entertaining manor. One game can get boring after a while! Unless it's this game. That's why its frowned upon.

Practice Habits

Each day, dedicate atleast 7 hours into un-interupted gameplay. Start out with something small like 5 hours a day to get in the routine. After a week, anything under 7 hours could ruin your career.

Me personally? I play 10 hours a day.

My schedual.

Wake up - 4 AM

Work at Mc Donalds - 4:10 AM - 4 PM.

Come home to parents basement - 4:10 PM

Play PA:SW - 4:15 PM to 12:30 AM.

Sleep.

Repeat -

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the schedual I would recommend to anyone interested in taking up competitive PA:SW

Here, let me show you my proffesionally edited frag video that features all of these tactics -

Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed my guide to the best game ever made!
