So do you have problem with vines for chests?
First you can avoid all (but won't have chests). Go to hippos lagoon and at the end you can climb up and climp up again.
Second, if you want to use vines then:
- jump on first vine useing jump (space)
- jump between vines useing jump next (attack button)

Don't even try jumping on vines by space!!! It worked for me only in first map when you must have momentum to do bigger jump for next vine. On second map (with scene) i lost 1 hour trying. With space it went on first try
