@mja307 the answer is that it is easier to design that way and you don't have to deal with people crying that its too hard

to be fair at this point i rather let the AI make elder scrolls 6, it will probably do less damage

The vibes I got whenever the Gates to Oblivion popped up in the wild was always awesome because It was just a menacing looking gate of fire to hell usually sitting close to a major city or town. you didn't know if you were too weak to get through it in the early game and sometimes had to spend some time leveling up before coming back to deal with the unique monsters and loot. The Shivering Isles expansion was also pretty awesome thanks to an engaging whimsical story and cool scenery. I don't know why so many games the past 2 decades just scale all enemies to your level. It's ok to be afraid of a hard area you need to come back to later. That's one of the benefits of having an open world.

I actually prefered Oblivion Art wise. I know it likely weren't intended, but it had a Brother's Grimm Fairytale Vibe to it, Sort of like Fable but dialed slightly higher up. I'm certain it wasn't intended to be stylized, but it looked stylized.
