How to stay alive in the early days

🛶 Survival: How to Stay Alive in the Early Days
Surviving the first few days in Grounded is no easy task. You’ll start off with no weapons, no armor, and no idea what the hell is going on. Everything in the backyard is bigger than you, and almost everything wants to kill you. Your first goal? Stay alive long enough to get basic supplies, find food and water, and set up a temporary shelter.

In this section, we’ll cover:
✅ Where to find food without getting poisoned or eaten.
✅ How to get clean drinking water without dying of dehydration.
✅ How to avoid the most dangerous enemies until you're ready to fight.
✅ Basic crafting recipes to get your first tools and weapons.
✅ How to set up a safe starting shelter to avoid getting killed at night.

🍗 Finding Food: What’s Safe to Eat?
Hunger isn’t as urgent as thirst, but you’ll still need to eat regularly to keep your stamina high. Here are the best early-game food sources:

🌿 Mushrooms (Easy, but Not Great)
🟢 Pros: Available everywhere, no risk of poisoning.
🔴 Cons: Low food value, not very filling.
➡️ Where to find: Near the starting area, scattered around the backyard.
➡️ Best way to use: Eat them early game, but replace them as soon as possible with better food.

🐜 Aphids & Weevils (Best Early-Game Meat)
🟢 Pros: Easy to kill, provides good food.
🔴 Cons: Raw meat spoils quickly.
➡️ Where to find: Aphids crawl on grass blades, Weevils wander near fallen branches.
➡️ Best way to use: Kill them, cook them over a roasting spit for more nutrition.

🐞 Ladybugs & Other Large Insects (Advanced Food)
🟢 Pros: Drops large amounts of meat.
🔴 Cons: Tougher to kill, can fight back hard.
➡️ Where to find: Wandering around the yard, especially near flowers.
➡️ Best way to use: Don’t fight them early on! Wait until you have good weapons.

🔥 Cooking & Preserving Food
Roasting Spit 🔥: Cooked food restores more hunger and lasts longer.
Drying Rack 🍖: Dehydrates meat, making it last much longer without spoiling.
Spoiled Meat? 🤢 Don’t throw it away! It’s useful for crafting traps.
💧 Finding Water: Don’t Drink the Dirty Stuff!
Water is more important than food—if you go too long without it, you’ll start losing health and stamina. You have two choices:

✅ Clean Water (Safe & Best Choice)
Dew Drops: Found hanging on grass blades. Hit the grass with a weapon to make them drop.
Juice Boxes: Drops juice periodically, refilling thirst and giving a small food boost.
Canteen (Advanced): Crafted from Grub Hide, lets you carry water with you.
❌ Dirty Water (Last Resort Only)
Puddles & Ponds: Will make you sick, lowering stamina.
Workaround: If you MUST drink it, eat food right after to reduce the penalty.
🛑 Avoiding Danger: What Can Kill You Early On?
Your first days in the backyard will be full of terrifying encounters. Here’s what to run away from until you’re ready to fight:

🕷️ Spiders (Absolute Nightmare Fuel)
Threat Level: EXTREME
Where They Are: Wandering the backyard, especially near trees and logs.
How to Avoid: Stay in tall grass, keep your distance, and don’t make noise near their nests.
🐜 Soldier Ants (Aggressive if Provoked)
Threat Level: HIGH
Where They Are: Ant hills and roaming in groups.
How to Avoid: Don’t attack worker ants! They only fight back if you hit them first.
🦟 Mosquitoes (Fast & Annoying)
Threat Level: MODERATE-HIGH
Where They Are: Near water sources like puddles and the pond.
How to Avoid: If you see one, RUN—they fly fast and deal high damage early on.
🔨 Basic Crafting: What to Make First?
You’ll need tools to survive. Here are the most important things to craft in the first day:

🪓 Pebblet Axe (Essential for Everything)
✅ Used for cutting grass, getting materials, and basic combat.
🛠️ Recipe: 3 Pebblets + 1 Sprig + 1 Woven Fiber

🔨 Pebblet Hammer (For Smashing Things)
✅ Used for breaking rocks, harvesting sap, and more.
🛠️ Recipe: 3 Pebblets + 1 Sprig + 1 Woven Fiber

🛡️ Clover Armor (Your First Protection)
✅ Reduces damage taken, keeps you warm at night.
🛠️ Recipe: Clover Leaves + Sprigs

🏠 Setting Up a Safe Shelter
As night falls, Grounded becomes even more dangerous. Spiders roam more aggressively, visibility drops, and your stamina drains faster. Having a safe shelter is CRUCIAL.

Where to Build Your First Shelter?
On High Ground: Less risk of getting attacked by wandering insects.
Near Water & Food: Saves time on gathering supplies.
Near a Research Station: Lets you analyze materials for new crafting recipes.
What to Build First?
✅ Lean-To (Your First Bed): Lets you sleep through the night.
✅ Storage Basket: Helps organize resources.
✅ Roasting Spit: Cook food so it doesn’t spoil as fast.

## **📍 Choosing the Best Location for Your Base**

Before you start throwing down walls, you need to **choose the right location**. A bad location can lead to constant attacks, difficulty finding resources, and wasted time rebuilding after every invasion. Here are **the best spots to build a base** and why they work:

### **🏞️ The Oak Tree Base (High Risk, High Reward)**
✅ **Pros:**
- Near the Oak Tree, one of the most resource-rich areas in the game.
- Close to **science stations** and the first **BURG.L Lab**.
- Plenty of **Acorns**, **Sap**, and **Mushrooms** nearby for food and crafting.

❌ **Cons:**
- **Spiders roam this area constantly**, making it dangerous if not well-defended.
- Not the best for early-game players who don’t have solid defenses.

### **🌊 The Lily Pad Base (Safe & Beautiful)**
✅ **Pros:**
- Completely **safe from ground-based enemies** (spiders, ants, bombardiers).
- Easy access to **water** and **Koi Pond resources**.
- Looks cool as hell.

❌ **Cons:**
- Harder to gather **wood, grass, and other basic resources**.
- You’ll have to swim a lot, which can be dangerous.

### **🪨 The Rock Cliff Base (Strategic & Secure)**
✅ **Pros:**
- **Insects can’t climb steep cliffs**, making it nearly invulnerable.
- **Easy to defend** since there’s only one way up.
- Great visibility to spot threats from far away.

❌ **Cons:**
- **Hard to build on rocky terrain**, requiring more effort.
- Resources aren’t as plentiful as on flat ground.

### **🛕 The Grassland Base (Beginner Friendly)**
✅ **Pros:**
- **Close to early-game resources** like grass, sap, and plant fiber.
- **Flat terrain** makes building easier.
- **Not as many dangerous creatures** nearby.

❌ **Cons:**
- **Less natural defense**, so you’ll need to build stronger walls.
- **More vulnerable to raids** from ants and other insects.

I wouldn't call this a 'guide' so much as an overview. Good info, but lots of skipped stuff for a new player like me tho'. Appreciate you writing it up. :)
